Comments from a brother
Until we can get this right, it maybe better to just buy whiskey at the July convention. After all, in buying whiskey we could try to forget (or forgive) the folk who misspent what we gave them previously to erect the King monument. I don't know about you, but I am suspicious of a man or women (Bro. Dr. King's son in this instance) who would tell me that Bro. Dr. KIng's spirit spoke to him and told him that the frat should give him $800k rather than $600k for the right to erect the King monument. Either Bro. Dr. King's son has had to much whiskey to drink, or he is outragiously ignorant of the workings of the spirit in a Bibical sense or he thinks the whole fraternity is filled with damn fools.

An interesting article.
This is one of those times a neo should be seen and not heard.

Perhaps I don't understand exactly how these things work. But I would think that having a monument is SUCH a privilege!!! Why did the family (or the center) need to be paid for King to be RECOGNIZED? Do they get paid each and every time he's recognized? That just seems crazy. Again, maybe I don't understand how these things work. I can understand someone being on the committee from the King Center, but please, why take money away from the monument?
I hope things get worked out behind this. I'd really like to see a memorial for Dr. King here in the city.

You are exactly right - the Kings require payment for the use of the MLK name.

Unfortunatly the King family wants to protect the King legacy but sometimes personally I think they go to far.

I am curious. Why would YOU all have to pay them THAT FRIGGING MUCH? I mean come on. You all can build a statue of me. Just buy my mom a house and a car. That's it.
This is indeed gone too far. God does not work like that. If anything, the money should be going to help either the D.C. community where the statue will be erected or the community that he was raised.
Sometimes this is how Black folks hurt themselves.
Oh and unless one of his heirs does not marry and procreate soon, the legacy will eventually die out.

Well CT4 Alpha is working on economic development in the neighborhood of DC where the national office is located. So that is development.

I am referring to the money that the King family is requesting. $600K can do a heck of a lot of good in the DC community or any community for that matter.
Question: Is Dexter or MLK III members of the fraternity?

I am not 100% sure but I have met MLK III at a regional convention. We did not shake hands or anything like that but he attends reguarly but is never in business sessions but is in general at the Luncheons.

sphinxpoet, you mean Baltimore, right?
ct4, the area where the monument will be erected is non-residential. (The National Mall)
A random note: I grew up across the street from a certain BGLO's national office. Let's just say that the community is no better because of it, and I feel that all of our organizations need to be more responsible and proactive in that respect.

1. Okay well help whatever is the nearest residential area.
2. Which BGLO? I hate when folks don't name specifics.
