If I find out I am going to die:
  • Meet with my Rabbi
  • Look Over my Will
  • Take my signifacant other out to the greatest night imaginable, without regards to price, putting it all on plastic
  • Keep quiet about it to everyone, including my signifacant other, and try to act as calm as possible.
  • Urge my out of state friends to make a trip real soon to wherever I may be, and telling brothers for one last time A. E. K. D. B.
  • Pray to THE BLESSED ONE and ask for his help on the journey I am starting and help for those that must continue on earth without me

Have long, individual heart-to-hearts with the people I love the most.

Talk with my Priest

Do something wonderful with my children

I honestly think that once a person is dead, they're physically gone and since I feel that way my husband knows that under no circumstances is he to have me laid out at a funeral home so people can come and gawk at me. That would p**s me off so much that I would probably stand up and bitch him out.

If he wants to donate anything that's usable or even my whole body, that's fine. I really won't be needing it!

I would talk to and spend time with the people I love the most.
I would update my girl's journals that I keep for them as they grow.
I would spend as much time as possible with them playing.

Well i would definately not understand what was going on and after taking time to clear my head after such news i would talk to family and friends and just be. I guess do something big that i have been meaning to do. And then enjoy what is left of my days, like it was a celebration of what is to come so people still here would know i am confident about what is about to happen.

I just took a quiz somewhere (I don't remember where it was) that told me the estimated day I would die. It was at like age 78 or something, and the most likely cause was heart attack. Kind of creepy, but interesting.

If I found out I was dying, I'm sure I'd freak out first because really, that's pretty scary. I'd tell people, make sure that someone would promise to take care of my cats and then probably have as much fun as I could.

I'd take my mom and all the money I can scrounge up from the sale of all my belongings (soooo, about $300 LOL), and fly off to Las Vegas. Rent a suite, gamble, eat great food...

Then, fly to Providence, visit the old haunts. Then, rent a car, go out to Nantucket, and just live the rest of my days out at The Wauwinet.

I've thought about this more than once.

I might prefer to keep it quiet. I would NOT want a pity parade.
I would NOT want to make others sad. When people get cancer or other diseases, everyone has to gossip about it.

Docetboy-I like what you said.
AXO_MOM_3-ditto.

I would try to make the best of the time I had left and avoid any pain killers that would distort my senses as long as I could.
I would write a letter to all my loved ones and tell them my memories and how they made my life beautiful.

Beside talking to my relatives and close friends, I would try to do something I'll probably won't do right now, I would definately try to climb Mt. Everest.

I would make very clear to my parents (or spouse) what I would like in terms of funeral arrangements. I think it is terrible when people do not get the resting place that they desire.

I would spend as much time with my friends and family as possible.

Docet, I love your idea of taking your SO out to the best night ever - they would have such happy memories.

I would go to confession.

As an update on mine regarding funeral arrangements:

I would make it as clear as possible I want as much as a traditional Jewish funeral as possible:

In the ground within 24 hours, all-wood casket, etc.

Under no circumstances do I want to be cremated - I cannot see my body being burned with nothing remaining - especially since my great-grandfather went through it in the Nazi Death Camps (my great-grandmother died of sickness, and my grandmother was offered the chance to buy her ashes, but of course prisoners were not allowed to carry money). My grandmother survived 9 dath camps to emigrate to America and lead a happy and very patriotic life, to pass away peacefully in her sleep 2 years ago

It depends on how long I've got left.

I'd first try to make my peace with those I may have hurt during my lifetime. I'd talk to my rabbi, and try to set my spiritual affairs in order, as it were.

I'd set my financial affairs in order as well.

I'd speak with all my friends and sisters, by phone if not in person. This includes a few old childhood friends that I've lost touch with over the years. I probably wouldn't tell them that I was about to die, though, except for my very closest friends.

I'd spend some time with my parents.

If I had children, I'd do something special with each of them.

Depending on how long I had left, I'd take a trip around the world with my husband and visit all the places I always meant to see that I hadn't yet, and revisit all the places I've been that I always wanted to get back to.

On my last night on earth (borrowing what docetboy said), I would enjoy a fabulous evening with my husband, pulling out all the stops. I would want to die asleep in his arms.

God, this thread is morbid

I would first try to make peace with myself and with God... so that I could be somewhat rational in presenting the situation to others.

I would tell my family first and make funeral arrangements. Cremation, please.

Then, with the help of my family, I would get all my affairs in order - pay off debts, decide how to distribute my things, etc... so they wouldn't have to deal with it later.

Once things were taken care of and I could just relax (yeah, right...), then I would tell my closest friends and just enjoy our time together.

Oh, and if I was in a relationship that was on the verge of marriage, I would want to do it... just so I could be married before I died... (I know, totally cheesy, like "A Walk to Remember," but I wouldn't want to miss that experience).

Well, I have peace with God, and I always make sure that I hug my family and friends and tell them I love them when we leave each other. I had several friends that died as a teenager, and my cousin, who was only 18, so it's very important to me that my friends and family know how much I love them at all times. That being said, I would:

Give all my money to my brother and sister in law to invest it for my nephew's college fund

Go bungee jumping

Go skydiving

Get married

Track down my ex-fiance and tell him I forgive him for the big offense

Spend the rest of my time with my 3 best friends and my family
