Question Help! What do I give them?

Two of my good friends from high school are getting married this summer, and I have no idea what to get them as wedding presents. My mom thinks I shouldn't tear myself to get them anything because neither of them asked me to be a bridesmaid, and they haven't sent me invitations to either wedding yet (it's early still), but I feel like I ought to get them gifts since we were such good friends before I went away to college. Any ideas?

Go to Things Remembered and get a photo album engraved w/ the names of the brides and grooms and the dates of their weddings. Those are so nice and very useful! Hope it helps.

have you checked to see if they are registered anywhere yet? if they are, then there will be plenty of options of things you can get for them...

Something that I like to give to friends that are getting married is a candle holder from Partylite (Partylite's website called the Gemini. They have it in Gold and Silver (I personally prefer the silver) and it's two candle holders connected with rings. It's really hard to describe, but I'll try to scan a picture from their catalog and post it somehow.

I would wait until you're invited to the weddings and then ask if they are registered anywhere. People are always thrilled to get stuff from their registry, and it's amazing how many people don't bother with it.

Thanks, guys. I know one is registered, but the other one isn't. Those are really good suggestions!

Thanks polarpi

The gemini is a popular choice, here's a picture of it with tealights inside. It can also hold votives and is really pretty when lit.

My new favorite PL item to give as a wedding gift is the Stratus Votive Holder. It's beautiful when engraved! (edited to add url because I can't get the image to post, darn it!)

I'd wait until you've either been asked to be a bridesmaid, or received an invitation (which implies that you won't be asked to be a BM).

You want to give them something where they will look back in 5 years and say "AchtungBaby gave us this for our wedding." Something personalized is good - Things Remembered is good for things like that, and I believe they will engrave things you buy elsewhere as well as their own products. You could also make something, if you're so inclined.

Don't give money if you can help it. It looks like an afterthought - like you were running out the door to the wedding and remembered "Oops, I forgot to get them a gift! Well, I'll just dash off a check."

Etiquette also says that you have up to a year after the wedding to give a gift, but I wouldn't invoke that unless there's a really good reason (like, if you decide to make them a cross-stitch and it's not finished before the wedding).

If you are asked to be a BM, wait until you see how hideous the dresses are... it might influence your decision (j/k )

If you choose to go with Things Remembered, they will engrave items from other stores. I had a pocket knife engraved there for my brother a couple of years ago. I think they said that, had it not come from that store, it would have cost somwhere around $5.

I always get an engraved Christmas tree ornament (if they are Christian) with "(insert his name here) & (insert her name here)
First Christmas together (insert year here)"

That way they remember you months and years later!

Wow, that christmas ornament is a great idea!!!!!!!!! I'll remeber that for when I need to get random wedding gifts. It would probably also work for like a close friend or relatives baby shower/1st birthday

Yes, I also get it for their new child "Baby's first Christmas"...

Very simple idea and it's available all year long!

All right, I scanned the catalog page. You can see the image if you go here: My photo album and go to the Scanned images album...the image is called Gemini and it's in the lower left corner of the page...it comes in either silver or gold, and it makes a wonderful gift (especially for college students who don't know where the engaged couple are registered or don't have the money to get anything elaborate!)
