i guess i better burn my pants
i went through this in my overly strict high school. pants were an abomination to women. this adminstration cringed when my best friend and i walked into my sister's graduation with pants on. they couldnt say anthing cause we already graduated. it supposedly blurred the lines between men and women. yeah, i wear pants so i must want to be a man.

I almost always wear pants. I think the last time I wore a dress was at my wedding...
I once saw an old (1960's) article from my middle school's newspaper, where the administration had made the controversial decision to allow girls to wear pants to school on cold days, IF they brought a skirt to change into when they arrived.

Yea.. it's pretty ridiculous.
I love the quote @ the end where that woman says something like "it's not the politicians, it's me & my pants" (paraphrased). I thought that was awesome. Especially since this leader's country isn't in too good of shape. Like maybe he should worry about that instead of pants.
You know, he said the Bible says women aren't supposed to be wearing men's clothes. So if you wear WOMEN'S pants, what does that mean?

the Bible is a separate issue. they were in the middle east. of course it is more strict and straightlaced. as for the scripture speaking to people that live today, the Bible just doesnt want to blur the line between genders. one of my high school teachers said that if pants you are wearing makes you look like a guy, then it is wrong. then again, this is the same teacher that says that drinking root beer from a bottle is a sin, cause it has the appearance of a real beer bottle.

What I would like to know is where exactly in the bible does it say that women cannot wear pants. I'm not being facetious, I would really like to know so I can read it for myself.

Another person that takes the Bible literally  ...we've been discussing this type of incident in my Theology class, actually. It's really interesting to see how many people strictly interpret everything.

Well, it doesn't say "Don't wear pants" All it says (Deteronomy??) is that women shouldn't wear men's clothes or appear "mannish". So, if you're wearing guys levi's, a tshirt, boots and your hair is cut ultra short, you're going to hell. LOL. It's interpretation. Many extremists interpret that as "no pants at all." You can still be pretty in pants, and even w/ short hair. It's your intention and God definitely knows that.
ETA: At least this time it's not a Muslim country. And misquoting the Bible?? Come on! I'm glad the women aren't taking him seriously. Maybe he'll get ousted.

Yeah, so when did we decide what was mens' clothes and what was women's clothes? Maybe I'm an idiot, but in Biblical times didn't everyone wear robes?

for the scriptures reguarding appearance and looks, we cannot take them literal. most people do take it really seriously, so that is why the Bible gets such a bad rep for being overbearing and ridiculously strict. there is more to the scriptures that meet the eye. we cant base the standard of appearance on one tiny verse in the Bible. we usually have to read up to the entire chapter to get a thorough definition.
there is also the problem of twisting the scriptures to say what we want. in the book of psalm, there is a verse that says something along the lines of making a new song unto the Lord. well my great and wonderful school (sarcasm) say that only stood for hymns of the church. contemporary and new worship songs were an abomination....um yeah.
totally off the subject, but the Bible is more awesome than we give it credit for. people should read the book, song of solomon. i like to jokingly say this is the Bible's erotic side  it's all about the sexual relationship bewteen a husband and wife. very sensual and beautiful.

There are some sects here that take the Bible Literally.
The Pentecostal church does, for example

BTW, I LOVE my pants, love the jewelery (bring on the bling bling baby). Needless to say, my husband and I do NOT belong to the church!

that article reminded me of that preacher-guy who goes to universities to get people pissed off.
He told one of my friends she was going to hell because she was wearing jeans.

OMG.. That is so funny!!
According to all of the church pageants I've seen.. i think they wore old robes & sheets. LMAO
Actually, now I'm curious as to whether men & women had specifically different robes (for lack of a proper term) in those times? Like certain colors or fabrics or something?

Yes, boys wore blue and girls wore pink.  I think I might ask my Theology prof. tonight.
