i know why.....

I am a soon to be alumnae initiate and i will tell you why i choose Alpha Phi. I always wanted to be in a sorority in college and i never either had the time because of my studies also my age at the time i was in college was a huge hinderance as well as geographical location.

I went to a very southern school in arkansas and I was 25/26 at the time i was there so rushing and peldging was not going to happen.

I always felt cheated from the exprience. So when i got home from Arkansas i was looking into avenues of trying to join at a Cal State school when i was attending CSU San Bernadino. There again i ran into the same problem....age. I thought because California was a little more relaxed i would not have a problem. there again that pesky age thing.

I looked into some sororites at the time that possibly offered AI and i didnt see anything really so i gave up on the idea. It never really left my mind completely just backburnered it for a while. I got married and moved to Oklahoma City for 3 yrs and for some reason i got it in my head i was going to try this again and see what kind of outcome was there now years later. I had a friend i worked with at AOL call center there was an AI into AKA . I figured if the pan-hell sororities are offering it now in 1999 so maybe some panhellenic's are doing it also. I found that DZ offered it and i wrote them and of course they the AA didnt know f it being offered but were going to send in to have me initiated.

Well got pregnant and had a difficult pregnancy and was ordered to bed for the rest of my pregnancy. (side note: wonderful healthy baby boy named matthew was born )

well since then i moved back home and never was initated with DZ. Plus i never really felt comfortable with them.

a yr or two later ( 2002) i found Alpha Phi. knew i had found a home and new family full of sister when i found you all and my alum group in San Bernadino. it was an instant click and i love them all as i love you all!

I never thought i would find this kind of feeling. The love and support we all have for one another is overwhelming and come Novemebr 9th when i am initiated i will be sooo proud to be your sister and where my badge proudly knowing i have found my home.

I am a huge beleiver in faith and what is meant to be and i believe strongly in my heart that i was meant to be a Alpha Phi and a sister to you all!

love,
laura
( now it is 3am in the morning and i am answering this ....thats love and dedication! .... plus i have a Tort law exam in hours i am still studying for as well as a legal brief for legal anyalsis due so i was up!

2 more months til i am officially a sister in this wonderful group!!!!!! YIPPEEEEEE

I agree that this is an interesting thing to know about people. This question is included in the Alpha Phi Roll Call that is marked as an Important! thread at the top of the forum.

Sorry - I just didn't know whether PNMs would know to read the Roll Call.

Because it's the greatest sorority in the world.

But seriously I fell such a strong sister hood with Alpha Phi. I don't know how many times I've called a sister at three o'clock in the morning cause I was depressed or going through hard times. We'd always go to walmart and get ice cream and talk till the sun came up. Plus I know that my sisters are always there for me, like the time I was stranded two hours away and our president dropped what she was doing and drove up and picked me up. Not a whole lot people would do that.

I can't really put into words, but it's that happy awesome feeling you get when you know you made a decision that's going to keep you happy for a lifetime!
