We made a coloring books for Blind Children using puffy paint.
Just take a basic coloring book, photocopy some of the pages (enough so that each PNM can do one).
Using puffy paint, the PNM will trace the outlines of the drawing.
Let it dry. After the party is over, compile the pages together and bind them somehow.
Voila! -- you had a tactile coloring book where blind children can touch and color inside the borders.
We did this for Recruitment and the PNM's quite liked it.
We had a table set up and a DG sister would take them to it and the PNM would do the activity.
Make sure that the pictures are quite basic, so that the PNM can finish it in about 3-5 minutes and have plenty of time left over to meet other DG sisters.

Hi
We did that last year, exactly what your chapter did, however it wasnt as successful as yours.
We had the Braille alphabet and you could spell our your name etc.
The PNMs didnt like it; they said it wasnt really fun and it was a little bit messy and boring.
Other sororities decorated a shirt, painted a flower pot, and something else but i cant remember!
2 years ago we made touchy feely books

actually we do "by the light of Delta Gamma" as part of philanthropy......
We make occluders...it's easy to make and talk at the same time and putting different "materials" (felt, feathers, glitter, etc) on different tables it makes it easy for sisters to rotate and talk to all the PNMS....
I've heard about decorating dog bowls for the seeing eye dog training places, but we've not done that yet...

We are doing the same thing, but instead of puffy paint, the PNMs will be gluing string around the drawings. This is my chapter's first year in recruitment, so I hope it works great!

I was VP:Foundation one year. It was no frils rush so here is what we did. We did a slide show where I was the captain (the silde show showed pics of our philantrophy events) of a DG cruise ship. And one of the other sisters played along and did some fun stuff and explained our philantrophy through the slide show. We had all different tables and did touch feel books. You just decorate feely things over the pics in the books with glue ect. We had anchor table clothes and anchor plates and cups and a board with philantrophy pics and stuff. It was fun! Except before the party I was wigging out b/c I couldn't get the slide show to work! LOL We wore anchorsplash t-shirts and jeans!

hmph...
we have done all the same things you guys have...one year we made occluders (sp?) and let the PNM's decorate them anyway they want...we did the braile alphabet by letting the PNM's spell their names out...one letter on each card so they could be used as flash cards for little kids learning the alphabet...umm and i think when i rushed we made coloring books for the little kids by glueing yarn onto paper in certain shapes. although some people may not find it EXCITING or ASTONISHING work...it is for a good cause...and to me...thats what meant the most when i rushed because the other two parties i went to on philanthropy night i puffy painted a picture frame and made a dream catcher and DG was the only one i saw that was actually being beneficial hands on...i dont remember honestly if the other ones were being sold for their philanthropy or what, but DG made it something where you contribute to our philanthropy that night...and to me...that meant a lot!

I don't, but I would like to know (that is, if you can say it publicly! )

That is a really cute idea. May I be an old school marm and suggest that you try this out (do a 'dry run')? I am just thinking that glue can be a bit sticky/messy and PNMs may need to wash their hands after the activity (so they might not want to shake hands with anyone until their hands are feeling clean).
Just a thought....I just want my Dee Gee sisters to have a fantastic recruitment!

We are having a work week prior to Recruitment, so I am assuming someone will try it out, if it has not always been tried. Maybe we'll use glue sticks?

sorry to bust up on in your forum =)
have any of y'all ever tried recording children's books on tape? maybe during philanthropy night you could have each PNM record a short portion of a short story or something...it would probably take 5 minutes max for each person. you would have to have a few tape recorders, but each chapter should be able to come up with a few. you could all divide into small groups and do it that way.
i actually can think of lots of reasons why this WOULDN'T work during a rush party...but it's an idea to be worked upon!

Our chapter had done that as projects but not during rush. Probably just too much back ground noise but thanks for the idea! We appreciate it!
