this morning on the escalator

so this morning on the way to work, i was walking up the long escalator at dupont circle metro station. i usually just stand there and wait, but i didn't want to miss my shuttle. so i noticed that there was a woman in front of me also taking that walk. (folks from DC know that dupont is a pretty tall escalator to walk up). and we were both just going for it, trying to make it to work. then the woman slowed up, and i was like dang, she's losing steam. (the things we think about while in transit) so i was like if she's like me, she needs her daily random act of kindness. so she's steady slowing up, and i move to the left and walk beside her.

"hang in there! you're almost to the top -- don't give up!"

you know, just being silly on my way to work. so she smiles, says thanks, then peeps my jacket.

"oh," she said. "skee-phi!"

, i said. "phi-skee!"

then we made more small talk and parted ways.

06-08....what a great way to start your day!

That was cute. Sometimes it's the small things. And yes, I know about the esculator at Dupont Circle. I hate when that darn thing doesn't work!
