Wedding advice

I'm trying to decide on a wedding date and I can't choose!

The two dates that I've got are May 29, 2004 and June 5, 2004.

I'd rather get married in May because I like it better than being a cliche June bride.

Another issue is that my dad died on June 10, 1994 - so that time of year is a bit wierd for me - I don't know if I want to be on my honeymoon then.

But on the other hand, May 29 is Memorial Day weekend - I don't want there to be an issue with people travelling and not being able to get rooms (although most of the guests are in-town). I also don't want to affect future anniversary plans - its a hard time to travel.

I need to call back the lady with the church tomorrow. She said that she won't give either of those dates away - I just don't know what to do!

Any advice/opinions?

May 29th....it's the day after my birthday And if you get married Memorial Day Weekend, you will always have a party to celebrate your marriage. Yes, some people might be affected because of travel plans, but overall most people would be there. Good luck with whatever you plan.

I would go with your gut feeling. Both would be perfect days actually. Memorial day in advance shouldn't be that big of a deal for traveling. As a matter of fact when I was going to get married we had chosen December 28th because we figured family would be able to fly in for the holiday and not have to work around WORK. So with that being a longer weekend because of Memorial Day I'd shoot for that date.

If the issue of your father bothers you that much don't choose that day...however it may also be a beautiful way to celebrate life's events and know that he is there with you in spirit

Does it matter then?
I'd go with Memorial Day.

Go with Memorial Day! Don't worry about the hotels though. In my opinion, Memorial Day seems like one of those holidays that people kind of "spur of the moment" make plans for. Not like Christmas or anything. Your guests will have their invitations and hotel reservations long before any other travelers can take up the rooms.

Plus, the weather is nice that time of the year.

I'd go with the May . . . that's the month I want to get married in, too. And what everybody else is saying is true -- I don't think anybody should have plans booking hotel rooms and so forth if they know far enough in advance.

I'm another one voting for Memorial Day. If you really think that many of your guests will be affected by travel plans you might consider sending "save the date" cards which will let everyone know of your intentions long before the wedding

you crack me up
did you sit there and put that together?

on subject:
i think that memorial day weekend would give people more opporunity to show up
they won't have to schedule to get off work
plus, it would be after memorial day anyway

I would go with Memorial Day Weekend. We are going to a wedding over Memorial Day Weekend this year and had no problems getting a room. You really should have no trouble as long as you block rooms at a hotel for any guests that would like rooms.

My wedding was 9/15/2001, yes that would be the weekend after 9/11. We are originally from the area where flight 93 had crashed on 9/11, so this very small and normally very quiet area had become inundated with FBI and other law enforcement people, as well as other investigators and family members. All the hotels in the area were booked and I got nervous that my block of rooms may be taken out from under my guests. They were, after all, federal agents and this was a huge deal. The hotel was very good about it and honored our block even though the big money was in the agents (they would end up being there for quite some time). Anyhow, long story short, as long as you get a block of rooms and remind people to make reservations early you should have no problems whatsoever with accomodations.

I like the idea of Memorial Day weekend--because it's already a long weekend, some people who normally couldn't get off will be able to come. I'm also partial to May weddings--but it's because I'm a May baby and the idea of having a birthday, anniversary, and Mother's Day all within a few weeks of eachother makes me so happy!

Best of luck with everything!

I don't know. Some of us have long-standing traditional plans on Memorial (or Labor) Day weekends, and it can be very hard to get out of them.

After talking it over with families and such, we've set the date for...

May 29, 2004

Schools around here aren't out yet at Memorial Day, so any families with children wouldn't be traveling that weekend. Most of our guests are not going to be travelling to get to the wedding - they live nearby - so I was just worried about messing up people's vacation plans.

Most people around here don't start vacations until June or so, so I think we're good.

Thanks for the advice!
