Post A fine group of women

I'm not a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, although I hope to be one day. I just want to say that I am very impressed with this organization. I am a junior right now and I have to admit that for the first two years of my college career I've heard nothing but stereotypes. The ones that basically say AKA's are superficial and not about business and that the Delta's are. Well after beginning my research to find out which one suited me best(the other two sororities never really appealed to me) I have found that those stereotypes are complete bull and I find it hard to believe that they have lasted all these years. Case in point, the web, this great expanding technology that I've heard black folks haven't caught onto quite yet, is saturated with the lovely women of AKA. I wasn't able to find even a third of the number of Delta, Zeta, Alpha, or any "white" organizations sites that I did for AKA. I know you don't need to hear it from me, but you are the not only the first, but also the BEST. And for all those who will say I am sweating them, I'm not. I am an intelligent black woman and I know when to appreciate any group of people who exemplify the greater aspects of being an African American in this country. God Bless.

I agree with daruler, In my quest to find out about different bglo's for women I ran across the same tired stereotypes that everyone believes about AKA's. However, when I accepted my current position of work, those stereotypes vanished, and my mind became made up in NO TIME!! Off the top of my head, I can think of seven of the women I work with that are members of Alpha Kappa Alpha. They are Prosecutor's, Defense Atrronety's, Law Student Interns, Directors of Governmental departments, and well-respected Judges. This says a lot about AKA to me. While other sororities brag about the number of current members they have, I believe in QUALITY not QUANTITY. I was fortunate enough to attend a breakfast given by Alpha Kappa Alpha with Tavis Smiley as the guest speaker. It felt so good to be surrounded by so many positive black women. Being able to experience that made me want AKA that much more.

You two ladies have said it all and, I would have to agree. I don't think there is anything that I could add.
