Disturbing message
Sorors, I urge you to check into the forum "Rush" and particularly the topic, Black and White-- is it an issue? There was one message from an individual named Alabama. I would urge you to respond to her. She is obviously somewhat of an ignorant White woman. Hever, I respect you if you chose not to dignify her message with a response. I actually wrote a rather long response and I hope it came off good. However, I know my one message will do nothing, given her attitude. But, I had to let her know how I felt. There were other responses to her and one from another Soror, Girl I had your back, although I know you could stand on your own. Anyway, just thought I'd put this message out there and see if any of you want to respond. If you do, let all of us know so we can check it out.
Skee ya

Hello Soror,
I read your posts and they were tight.
Sliver Turtle i believe has a good heart
but he or she can't really understand
what reality is in terms of being black
because they can't relate, this country
is set up to conform to their needs, desires, way of thinking, etc.
when we talk all they hear is complaining
because they live in a different reality
than do we. And Alabama girlfriend was way
out there and like you said BITTER.

Hello Soror, thanks for feeling me. I knew my sorors new what was up.. But you're right, Silver turtle probably does mean well, but you're right again: she probably doesn't understand reality. IT is so true that they never have to see our reality, b/c of the way the world works.. but we always have to see theirs.. Oh, well, but I did want Silver Turtle to get the picture and maybe understand. The problem is, like I said in the Rush forum was that people want to forget so much of history because it was something terrible, but that's something that should never be forgotten.. Oh well. As for Alabama, she's ignorant and that's the problem with the world today, her attitude. Anyhow, thanks for saying my messages were tight. You know we have to come correct and intelligent when speaking to ignorant people( you know who I'm talking about). Take care soror..

Just to let you ladies know,
Yes, I do understand reality.
No, I am not a black woman in America. I am, however, a woman, and as that I, too, have experienced and continue to experience discrimination.
No, it's not exactly like the discrimination you face on a daily basis. But there ARE similarities.
My post was to address exactly this: you say there is no way for me to understand. Since you don't know me or my experiences (except for the few I have posted here), you can't make that judgement. Even if you could, very few of you have tried to educate me.
My point was that we DON'T always understand where each other are coming from, but that doesn't mean we can't try to start creating more unity. Simply saying "these white girls can't understand what we go through" isn't going to make anything better. Help others understand.
I commend you all for your positive attitudes. I didn't mean to butt into your conversations, I was reviewing the day's active topics and saw my name mentioned . I hope this didn't come across hostile or anything. I simply wanted to let you know that sometimes we white folk have been through some stuff, too. And maybe we can relate better than we are often given credit for.
I will get out of your board now. Thanks for letting me re-phrase my opinion.

Silver turtle, you did not come off sounding hostile. However, I am not trying to judge you and although you are a woman and there are similarities, nothing compares to race. I I am not trying to minimize what you go through on a daily basis or what "white folk" go through, however, it is really difficult for me to see what the struggles are that you go through. And, maybe that's because what we as African Americans go through are so apparant and obvious. HOwever, one thing I would like to say is that I just wish more White people would just ACKNOWLEDGE that racism exists, and is an issue that has to be discussed, and not something to shy away of because it is an uncomfortable subject for some. Also, that they are born with inherent privilege. Now, whether or not they decide to benefit from that privilege is another thing but there is inherent privilege of being White. I don't hope this sounds to ratical, but that really is reality. Again, just acknowledge what goes on. Silver Turtle, you are one bold individual to come into this forum, but I admire that you are not afraid to voice your opinion ..But I think that it's a start to even just look in these forums and see what African Americans have to say. A lot is very valuable and things that aren't huge but make a big difference....
