Greekchatting

Dear Greekchatters,

Over my brief time at greekchat, I've seen the benifits that it offers. In fact, we may have the most diverse forum of people, in terms of location, and Organization, in the world.

Greekchat is a tool which opens the lines of communication between greeks like never before. I personally believe that this forum can be used to make many changes for the better in greek communities across the nation. Daily, people post asking for advice about issues which are of earth shattering importance to their organization, or their local greek community.

However, far too often I see these posts sink to the bottom of the pile, and their author without a solution; then seeing readers opting to respond to posts of must less importance to the greek community at large.

I am not saying ANY of this to be a jerk or an a-hole, but to set the record straight of the kind of mentality we should have as and expect from our fellow greeks. To those who feel this way, I am sorry you had to wait this long to be vindicated. For those who feel otherwise, I plead with you to trust that this forum is a powerful resource and to make more of an effort to help individuals and organizations who come here asking for advice.

I think that often, the more serious the post is, the more likely it is to be ignored because there isn't necessarily an easy solution and most of us haven't dealt with a similar situation, so any advice we would have wouldn't necessarily be practical.

I don't think it's necessarily true that more serious posts get ignored -- check out the topics on race relations within the Greek community, for example. But the reason these get so many replies is because ALL of us have had some sort of issue relating to race in our lives, so most of us feel that we have something to contribute to the discussion. When there's a topic that poses a question that is unique to an individual campus, it generally gets less replies because most of us don't have much experience with that problem and therefore don't feel qualified to give advice or have any ideas on how to fix it.

Also, many serious questions get answered through PMs. Many people would rather address situations personally, and don't want to get to personal in open space.

archangel689,

I agreed with everything on your post until you got to sinking to the bottom of the pile.

Yes, some of the most heated threads have come in the racial postings.

Yes we all have a say in something like this as we are a diversified Group of People from all over the country, different races, Religions, and Greek Orgs. No, there is very little arguing when it comes to Religion.

Do we disagree and argue like hell, yes we do!

But, things do get worked out.

While I am not a member of Soroity, I have come to know many People , Justamom, OTW, agd1019, carnation, amycat, crimsontide, and on and on and on.

I am not a memebr of but one Fraternity, but I have come to feel very strong about other memebers , znteke, wptw, optomistprime, betarulz, docetboy, etc.

I consider tham My Brothers and Sisters in a Greek Form of way!

We on GC are a Family and yes we argue and disagree, but one thing is certain, we are a very large Family that outgrows the bond of a single group. I am sure that each and everyone of us pass only to our groups what has been talked about on GC!

Why, it is the best site for the best of all of us, plain and simple!

You are fairly new to site, but stick around!

You will find out a whole lot on this site. If you need a friend, information, fun,or just what ever, there are a whole lot of people here who will be more than happy to help!!!

That is what GC is really all about!

I hear ya man. And what everyone's saying is about right. It's not that no one cares, it's that the problems are very complex and sometimes we don't see a clearcut solution -- in fact, it would be accurate to say (in my opinion) that no advice is better than bad advice.

I have to tell you, some of your problems have been pretty tough ones to think about. Nothing seems to go your way but what doesn't kill you should make you stronger. Hope this is a satisfactory answer!
