Cute idea for promoting class attendance

Today I just happened to come across the Lehigh University website for Greek Affairs. I decided to tour each of the sorority websites. When I got to Alpha Omicron Pi, I saw the cutest concept!

The NO-Skippy Jar:

If a sister does not skip any classes, she can put her name in the NO-Skippy jar for the weekly drawing of a prize. This is a good way to encourage girls to attend all of their classes.

How funny!

FYI - they claim to have the highest chapter GPA at LU. I guess the NO-Skippy jar works!

We have a No-Skippy Jar where you take a piece of candy if you haven't skipped a class that week. I think the fact that all of your sisters see if you DON'T take a piece of candy is more of an incentive not to skip class than the candy itself.

We also have a Smart Cookie drawing: anybody who gets a B or higher on a test, project or paper that week gets to put their name in a hat to have a chance at winning a prize.

we have something along these lines also! we have the skippy jar. we have one in the main suite, and i think each suite has one. but if you skip class, youre *supposed* to put a quarter in the skippy jar. then if you get an A on a project, test, paper, whatever. you put your name, and what you got an A on to the VP of intellectual development. then at certain times throughout the semester, she will pick a name from all of the A's adn that person gets all the quarters. yay for laundry money!!

Thumbs up good topic

We have the Cut Can and the A-Bag.

The cut can is passed around during roll call. Instead of saying "here" when your name is called, you have to call out the number of classes that you skipped that week. Then, when the cut can gets to you, you have to put a quarter in for every class missed. The money is used to buy pearls at the end of the semester for sisters who made a 4.0 that semester. (The pearls go on their badge guard along with any other dangles that they have.)

The A-Bag goes around the same way, and sisters write their name down once for every A that they made that week on a test, homework assignment, paper, whatever. At the end of the semester, the Academics chairman pulls out 2 names from the A-Bag and those 2 sisters get free dues for a month.

We had a no-skippy jar. You could put your name in if you didn't skip class each week and then at professor night we drew a name out of the hat for a prize. I was so excited winter quarter of my junior year because I had a professor at professor night and I won the no-skippy prize (a really cute navy sweatshirt with our letters in a blue and gold star and moon pattern over the left breast). Woohoo!

Arrow No Skippy Jar

But we did have "Don't kill the Dove"

There was a paper dove that was passed around at each meeting. For each class missed, you punched a hole in it. The goal was to have something still resembling a dove at the end of the quarter.

LMAO - I love it!

When we called roll at meetings we also had to say how many classes we missed that week and put a quarter in for each one. At the end of the semester we donated the $$ to our philanthropy.
