Random e-mail from a Marine

I got an e-mail of some photos making fun of Saddam. I didn't recognize the e-mail address of the sender, but I knew a few of the recipients. I decided to e-mail the sender and ask if I knew them. This is the e-mail response from him:

Hi, you do not know me, and I do not know you, I just got your e mail address randomly from an e mail that I got from a friend. It had apperantly been fowarded a couple of times and it had some names and e mail addresses that I recognized and some that I did not. You probably know *********, she is the one who sent me the e mail with your address on it. I grew up in Pasadena Tx., if you did too then you would know Sam Rayburn, I graduated from there in 99. Some of the people that I serve with are realy mad about all the protesters and we just wanted to see how many people would write back in support. So please send that letter on and tell people to reply to me and show support.

********

Although I support our troops, this e-mail was pretty random and I don't know, I just didn't like it. The original forward from him didn't even ask for any type of support or anything, so I don't know. His e-mail address contains "usmc" in the suffix (i.e. @aol.com) so I am pretty sure he is a Marine. But anyway, has anyone else gotten something like this or know somebody who has?

Probably a hoax - in fact, I'd say it's highly likely that this is a hoax.

Many times these people will put something in the email address to make themselves seem more genuine. However, I'd be very surprised if this was genuine.

I would be leary. I have gotten a few emails from servicemen as replies to emails I've sent through other pages and they all have more than just "usmc" or whichever branch they are in. They all also end with .mil not .com. I am also leary of some with legit emails as I have already had people overlook that I mention my husband in my email of support and hit on me and ask for pics and such. If he can prove to you that he's legit, then he may be. Just be careful of what you tell him and remember if you have profiles anywhere he can get info from those if he wanted to. Several message boards to the troops are warning about that.

I don't plan on e-mailing the guy back. I e-mailed him once asking if I knew who he was and above was the response I got from him. He just rubs me the wrong way.
