Arrow Women's hormones and skin care

Ok ladies.

My dermatoligist has determined that my occasional breakout of adult acne (ARGH!! ) is caused by flucuating hormones (I am 28 yrs. old). I currently use Retin-A Micro and have had good results, but sometimes I still get flare-ups.

Since I do not want to take ANY pills, I went to the healthfood store and found a lot of "natural women's tonic" that is supposed to help.

Question: Has anyone tried any of these tonics before? What was your results?

No, I haven't.

However, I did go on the pill to relieve cramps and acne and it works. Now that I am married of course, I HAVE to take the pill...

The acne did not completely go away, so I got Proactiv. It is a miracle. My skin RARELY ever breaks out anymore.

Try it.

I'm 27 years old and the only thing that I've gotten really good results with is Proactiv. I love it! My face used to break out all the time but since I started using Proactiv my skin has been great!

Ditto on the ProActive. My skin is really sensitive, so I can't use the complete combination together (skin cleanser, toner, and topical cream). Instead I use the topical cream every other night and use the cleanser and toner daily.

To answer your question, I have never used any tonics. I am always skeptical about drinking and eating things that are supposed to clear up your skin and the such. Good luck on your quest!

Proactiv is good, you say?? I started to try it a while back but never did. My skin isn't bad now, but when I was on the Pill I started getting these monstrous breakouts so I quit taking it and the doc gave me Retin-A. It's pretty good, but I'm always having to use SPF50 sunscreen on my face because I'm scared it'll burn. I might give Proactiv a try...

Acne, Ugh!!!
I've tried everything!! Antibiotics, vitamins, zit cremes, even Accutane. Which I wouldn't recommend, unless you are 100% aware of ALL the possible complications. I had to quit taking it before my time was up, so I didn't get the long term effects. I now use Proactive and it cleared me up for awhile, but now I'm back to my flare ups again around my periods and when I'm stressed.
My new dermatologist gave me retin a micro and another creme. My breakouts were around my mouth/chin and she said that when women break out around that area of their face and not really any other place, it is usually linked to hormones. I would have your hormone levels checked, especially if you have other problems like irrregular periods or crazy mood swings like I did.
I'm going back for a checkup and hopefully I'll find something that works, and I'll let ya'll know. I am always afraid to take meds or herbs that I don't know much about.

Miracle drug, but also harmful if on it for to long... Prednizone- spelled wrong . I took it for 5 days before my sisters wedding and my face was crystal clear!!! I don't know if that is the name exactly but I think it is used to treat arthritis. It gets rid of inflammation and clears you up so fast!!

I got the Proactiv knockoff that they're selling at Walgreens, but I've been scared to use it. I'm afraid that the Benzol Peroxide will make my skin worse before it gets better.

I get occasional flare ups - and I've decided the culprit was not drinking enough water and not exfoliating enough. I'm going to make sure I get all my water and use the Clinique exfoliating scrub every day and see if that helps.

I've found that drinking tons of water really does make my skin look better. I would recommend the Clinique exfoliating scrub every other day, though. Otherwise, it might be irritating to your skin. It's really too strong to use every day unless your skin is super, super, SUPER oily.
