LC/LA Info, Badges on Ebay, and more....
Hellllooooo everyone! I have finally arrived at IHQ and am unpacked. For those of you who AREN'T new to GC, I am Jenny, previously known as Bellejkp.
Several of you posted wanting more information on the LC/LA advisor, and I am here training with 8 other wonderful women for our adventure this year! I would be happy to tell you all about it as I'm going through with it. Your first step is the application, which is due in Januaury (usually). Feel free to email me with any other specific questions. So far it's great! Tomorrow we start our first day in the office. Today we went on a team development course, which was an awesome way to start our 3 weeks of training.
As for the Ebay badge post string, I just wanted to let you know that I once reported a badge being sold on there and I got a reason behind WHY IHQ can't reimburse people, or simply buy badges offline themselves - people take advantage of it. Unfortunatly, not everyone is honest and if people knew that IHQ would buy the badges, they could rig it so they would be forced to pay LOTS of money...and IHQ just can't do that. So, we rely on the honesty of people and the WONDERFUL sisters like you all out there that monitor AGD badges and write to those who are selling them. Kappa Alpha Theta recently had a really cool article about this in their Fraternity Magazine...one woman's badge was stolen many many years ago when her house was burglarized and it ended up being sold on Ebay and some clever detective reunited the woman (who was now in her 80's!) and her badge. (I believe the story is in their most recent issue if any of you want to go looking for it on their website.) Sounds like something one of us GCers would do for our sisters as well.
Hope that clears some things up! I am going to go upstairs now....3 of us just got back from grocery shopping and I need to help unload! Then it's movie time!

FYI - I went to the Kappa Alpha Theta Website to see if that story was there (it was really good), but I didn't see their magazine on the site. I DO have to admit I have a slow internet connection so I didn't look very hard, so if one of ya'll look it might be there.
I just had to add this because you guys are so good at always adding links! :-)
Goodnight!
Jenny

Jenny darling!
Hope you're having a great time at 8701. Try and convince the other LCs to come chat here...that way they won't tease us at next Convention.
Keep us posted! Tell the girls I said hi!

I wanna be an LC... Sandy you should be an LC too!! I want it so bad! My boyfriend (AACK THAT WORD!) wants to get engaged next spring after graduation and I told him that it depends on if I get an LC position... He wasn't happy, but I would be AAHH!! I can't wait, when can we get the LC applications? Also when exactly is IHQ going to update the website?
Oh, Jenny, my chapter is having Tiffany Green (I think that is her last name) as an LC for recruitment... tell her we said hello, (especially me since I am VPR). We are excited about having her!

All of the LC's say hello everyone! Tonight we are going out to our first social function with the gentleman of Alpha Tau Omega for ice cream and a movie at their place. I am social coordinator, so I'm excited!!
Sarah - Tiffany says hello and can't wait to meet you! I will give her your email address so you guys can talk. She's also from my chapter, so she's ALSO one of my best friends in the whole world! She will be great for help with Recruitment!!!!
LC-to-be's: My boyfriend wasn't keen on the idea either, but I KNEW I wanted to be an LC. So, now I am one and he's not my boyfriend! LOL....no, I know for a fact relationships can survive you being an LC, just give him time to accept it...if he understands how important it is to you, he will be supportive and then you'll know he's a great guy for you!
Much AGD Love,
Jenny

If Kelly Berry is there send Theta Iota love to her too!!! I am so jealous of you guys.. so since Tiffany is from your chapter and you two are tight tell me some things that we can do to make her visit better... does she like certain foods? Are there certain types of music she loves? Anything like that?? What is something she really really likes? (Like my friend has a real Frog problem, anything with a frog is all her!) Anything like that they maybe we could give her to make her feel more welcome? Just let me know! Thanks! Loyally, Sarah

My chapter president and I are seriously considering applying for the job. She graduates in December and I'll hopefully be done in the Spring.
Having an LC during Recruitment sounds so cool. We've been fortunate to have Ronda (our Leadership Advisor) for a year now, and she's been such a part of our family that we're not going to let her go even when her term expires!
The BF and I have also talked about marriage but we know that's not going to happen for a while. I also don't intend to attend graduate school right away, so maybe the LC position would be ideal for me!

I forgot to add--
Katie Jolley mentioned that the target date for the new website is August 1st. She also mentioned that there's a strong possibility that it could be unveiled a few days before that.

Kelly Berry's so adorable! Wasn't she one of the women that brought the most shoes to Convention? 11 pairs or something like that?

Here's the scoop on Tiffany - she's REALLY picky about what she eats but likes bagles a whole lot and other basic things like that.
Hmm....actually, I need to think of some more things and get back to you on that. She will send those kinds of things in her pre-visit letter though. :-)
Kelly isn't here, but she's coming to help us train one of these days - I can't wait!
Today we had IVC-A Penny Edmiston come to train us and it was so awesome! I just am amazed at all of the wonderful women who serve AGD as part of the VST. I wish everyone had the opportunity to learn from them like we do!
Soooooo....EVERYONE APPLY TO BE AN LC or LA!!!!
I'm off to get some work done before we go out on the town. Have a good weekend everyone!

Hey Jen, could you do me a big favor? Since you're at 8701, could you please find out for me if Ronda's radio was sent to Hawaii? I feel bad because I didn't want to make Pat Vreeland sift through all those boxes in Atlanta.
About the LC/LA thing...even if I won't have the opportunity to do it, I would still love to serve the Fraternity as part of the VST. At Convention I met a lot of VST members who were once LCs/GAs and now serve as Directors or Chairmen of some sort. Whether it be a Province person, Area person, or even a volunteer staff member for IHQ...I'd so love to do it!
The women who give their time to be a part of the VST are simply amazing. To think that they have their careers and families and still have enough time for the Fraternity! That is true dedication right there.
I also thought that the Julie Waitman Cretin was a great idea. For those who didn't go to Convention, IHQ wanted to honor our former Executive Director. But being that she is a paid member of IHQ, she's not eligible for our Honors of Epsilon Pi. So, to honor her in the best way possible, they created a new award for her and for those employed by our IHQ...the first Julie Waitman Cretin Award went to none other than Julie Waitman Cretin. Isn't that awesome?

Hey Jenny I have yet another LC question.
Does an applicant have to be a recent graduate in order to be considered for the position? Take for example--my BF's mom wants me to visit her in Belgium after my graduation next spring...which would be perfect because I wanted to tour Europe after graduation! Though I was initially considering 2002-2003, I'm now looking at 2003-2004 mainly because I wanted to take off half a year and do the traveling thing.
I know Ronda was out of school for a while before she decided to pursue her Masters, so I was wondering if this also applied to LCs.
Thanks so much for all your help!
