Good Workouts!

Ok, Midwesterngirl's thread on the Prairie Life Center made me create this thread on good workouts. As someone who played organized sports forever, I am constantly on the lookout for fun new workouts because I get bored at the gym.

I workout at a gym called Bodies in Motion. I workout there because they have a great schedule of classes that keep me interested in working out (i.e., spinning, boxing & kickboxing on the bag and cardio, pilates and various yoga classes). Even with all these great classes I sometimes get bored. Yesterday morning I was so excited because I took a kickboxing class with a new instructor and had a blast! She has so much energy and she really kept us going throughout the class. I am so happy because I feel motivated to go to her classes this week!

My question for all of you is what do you do to keep yourselves motivated to workout and keep interested in your classes?

I love to go to the gym

It is my escape from work, school and a very hyper 3 yr old.

I use to have ballys and 24 hr fitness but i switched to LA fittness because they have better classes and a huge olympic pool. They also have a basketball and raquetball courts. The one thing though that sold me was there classes. Like your gym i love the mix of yoga, pilates, cardio kick, spinning and dance thought i never took a hip hop class.

They also have a HUGE daycare center so i can drop my hyper 3 yr old son matthew off to go work out. I grab my cd player a text book and get on a treadmill or a step rowing type machine.

I like you have been in organized sports my whole life and i cant go without that kind of work out though lately i have and i am feeling it. I am yeanring to get back out onthe tennis court again. I lettered in HS and in college and use to play league play.

I enjoy more low impact workouts.I love walking.I could walk for miles if I had the time.Give me a beautiful day and a my walkman and I am gone.
My 6 year old neice has just been diagnosed with Diabetes.Since both parents are larger people, not enormous by any means,we want to make sure that she gets lots and lots of exercise. We want her to enjoy it because it something that she will have to do for the rest of her life. She loves loves loves to swim and we are going to encourage that.Joining the gym is really more for her to have access to the pool than anything else.
Have any of you ever taken a tai chi class?I am absolutely taking a yoga class but was interested in tai chi also.I have heard that it is very centering.

The only motivation I need is smaller clothing!

But I notice a difference in my emotional state when I do workout versus when I don't. I don't take organized classes - I just alternate between cardio one day and cardio + weights the next.

I studied Tai Chi when I lived in Italy. It was wonderful. We did Tai Chi in the Boboli (sp?) Gardens every morning at 6:30 before class. I loved it. I haven't really done it since then because the set I learned is not done around here and I never felt like learning a new or different set.

Ithink tonight I am going to take a class called Yoga with Drums. I am super excited. My body is really sore from doing so much kick boxing lately and I am going to try to motivate to go to the 6:15 am kickboxing class tomorrow morning. Let's see if I make it .

I am glad to hear you are motivating your neice midwesterngirl. Diabetes runs in my family and my grandma refuses to exercise and her health is suffering as a result. It is so hard to watch.

One class I really want to take but it is not offered at a good time for me is belly-dancing. Has anyone taken it at all?

No belly dancing but I love yoga!!

I also like the book Body for Life...its helped me improve my workouts!

I belong to the YMCA which I don't love (too many drippy little kids in the locker room) but I live in southern RI not exactly fitness central...

hi! not trying to bust in on your thread, but i find it really interesting and informative. hope you don't mind.
i actually work at the ymca around my town and they do offer another locker room where kids aren't allowed. you do have to pay more, but man is it worth it.
i've been very unmotivated to workout lately and i need to get out of that. i think i'm going to get started on the pilates and yoga at least cuz the treadmill, bike, climber aren't cutting it anymore for me. i just hate them at this point.

Wish me luck -- I am hoping to get up at 6:00 to go to the 6:15 class tomorrow morning. I am still working right now though so hopefully I'll be able to get up.

Aphigal -- it's nice to see you online again!
