question
I really needed to ask you ladies a question. Why do you think it is easier for men to meet and become friends more than women? I'm asking because, my husband and I relocated to a new state a couple of years ago. He has already developed his basketball friends, work friends etc. On the other hand, I have to call my girlfriend or my sister in another state in order to have a good conversation .

it depends...
i think that it depends on each individual. my husband moved to our currently location and still hasn't developed close friendships with other guys outside or work. he tends to be a loner. he now realizes that he needs to 'venture' out more.
on the other hand, i am more of the social butterfly and i have a host of friends and associates.
adjustments to a new area are difficult but i say be open to experiencing new things and just have fun!

I agree. I admit I am a loner and so is my man, however, I am more socialite than he is. For some reason I met more friends just chilling out and being myself, if that makes since.

Men are more open to new friendships than women are. Most women have a few close friends with whom they have been friends for a very long time. Men, on the other hand, seem to be more open to having friendships with a wide variety of people.
I think that one of the main reasons for this is that women tend to have more trust issues than men do. Women are more wary of who they spend time with. There are plenty of people who we'll talk to while we're at work, school, or volunteering, but we don't really let the relationship develop outside of those boundaries. Why? Because "I don't know her like that." Many women will sacrifice a potentially fulfilling friendship to avoid being hurt.

Re: question
My husband and I moved to Florida from NJ and met several women through work and joining a bookclub.
I think it's based on each individual. I think the more outgoing a person is and experiences new things and joins activities, he/she will develop friendships.
I see you are in FL. Which part?

Thanks everyone for responding. I agree with you all. I am just a quiet and shy person, which can sometimes be a disadvantage. I am currently in a business organization, but I have a hard time opening up to people. Most people want to get to know me, but I guess I hold them at arms length. Which is actually not my intentions. Like classylady said, maybe it's a trust issue. I have no clue, but it's something I have to work on.
Anyway, Snuggles12 I'm in Ft. Lauderdale. What city are you in?

Hi Neighbor. I live in Coconut Creek.
And I understand about the difficulty of making new friends when you're shy. I'm shy but I try to make an effort to socialize. Otherwise, I'll drive my hubby crazy with girltalk.
Check your PM. I sent my contact info.
