Going To Disney World!
I'm going to Disney World next week and I'm really excited. I went to Disneyland back in '93, but that was a while ago.
Have any of you been? Any suggestions on what to do and what not to do?
WARNING: Girly Question...
I'm not sure what to wear. I suppose I should wear shorts, but I don't really like them. Do you think I can wear flip flops (my reefs) or should I stick to tennis shoes?
Oh, and what about backpacks/bags? Are you allowed to bring them? Should I bring one so that I can carry water and extra clothes?

Disney World is like my favorite place ever! I'm so jealous of you that you get to go and I am stuck here. Where are you staying?
My suggestion is to go online (or get the most recent guidebook from the library) and look at the attractions ahead of time, and pick out the things that you would really like to do in each park. Then do those things first, with the brand-new and very popular attractions first thing in the morning. Then you can fill in other things at slow times or at the end of the day when you're done with your list.
As far as shoes... I am not a tennis shoes kind of girl, I hate them and I only wear them to work out. I did wear flip flops to Disney World, and it wasn't really a problem. As long as you are 100% sure that you won't be getting blisters or that your feet won't hurt, go ahead and skip the tennis shoes. On that same topic, I am not a shorts type of girl either. It will probably be warm, but not so incredibly hot... you could prob. get by with wearing capris or jeans, but you'll just have to wait and see when you get there. I went a few years ago in May, and I actually wore a comfortable, knee-length skirt to the park on a couple of the days, and it was much better than shorts. But that's just me
I'm pretty sure you can bring backpacks and bags into the park, and you'll definitely want to bring water (since bottles purchased in the park are sure to sell for ungodly amounts of cash). I would suggest going for something as light and small as possible... it can be a pain trying to find something to do with your bag on rides and attractions.
I hope you have a great time!

We're going to stay at the Comfort Inn in Lake Buena Vista. I'm meeting my sister and her husband there and that's where they made the reservations. It's in the middle of Disney World and Sea World. I really want to go to Sea World too!
I just spoke to my sister and she said there is supposed to be scattered showers. Hopefully our trip will still be fun.
Thanks CC!
BTW, my parents have settled in North Carolina. My father just retired from the military. I've spent about eight years in North Carolina...on and off. I really like it there. Have you ever been to Ashville? I've been through it, but have never experienced it. I want to go hiking there. I would love to experience the fall, winter, and summer in Ashville. It seems like such a beautiful place.

I actually just booked myself and some friends a trip to Orlando for the end of Sep/beg of Oct. The Magic Kingdom and Epcot are NOT on my list of places to visit cuz I went there last year. This year, it's MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, Islands of Adventure, and Wet -n- Wild. I'm HIGHLY into thrill rides right now, and seeing places I haven't seen before....Let us know how the trip goes!!!

...and you're in Miami!!!
The flight shouldn't be too expensive.
You should get some girlfriends together
and plan a getaway. If you don't want to
fly, take a road trip. Road trips are so much
fun!
Until then, I will have fun for you!

DISNEY WORLD!!!! UCF IS RIGHT NEAR THERE!
My top suggestion: eat at Prime Time Cafe in MGM. It is the most incredibly overlooked place, but one of my favorites. It's a sit-down restaurant themed around the fifties sitcom families. You go in, and everyone treats you like you're family. You have to set the table, use good manners, and eat your vegetables...or you don't get dessert! The waiters and waitresses are super nice, and I guarantee you will die laughing if they play the whole theme up.
It's also got really good food.
Also, you certainly can't miss my favorite ride: The Haunted Mansion. If you are one of those people who must know how every thing works, like me, go to www.doombuggies.com. It's really interesting reading on how the special effects work.
If you love princessy stuff, remember to eat in Cinderella's castle. If you can manage to time it so you're in there while the fireworks show is on, they dim the lights and play the music and you have a prime veiw. I'm not crazy about the food, but it really is incredible- I ate there before my junior prom and still tell the stories.
Also, make sure you visit the AFI exihbit at the end of the backlot tour at MGM if you're in to moves. I haven't been in a while, but I've heard they have one of the wicked witch's hats from the Wizard of Oz, and Darth Vader's costume.
I would definitly reccommend getting passes with Parkhopping abilities. IMHO, Animal Kingdom isn't worth a whole day.
On the shoes- you could really do either. I prefer tennis shoes, myself. My feet hurt less and stay cleaner.
If you have any more questions, just ask. I grew up here, and I'm a walking guidebook.
Oh, almost forgot. You can bring backpacks in, but post- 9-11, they've been searhing them at the entrance to every park. I'd consolidate stuff into one bag if at all possible (preferably with very few pockets!) , especially if you'll be parkhopping a lot. It can be a real pain.

Just a comment on the shoe idea...
I wouldn't wear sandals or flip flops to Disney World, even though I love to wear them all the time. I wore them last year chaperoning a trip (what a harsh job I have at times ) and my feet got stepped on, run over, stuff spilt on them, etc. It seems that especially when there are small children running around everywhere, they seem to forget about how everyone has toes that don't like to be stepped on.
Just my opinion...
Oh, and if you go to Epcot, eat at the sit down restaurant in Italy!

Not to brag My 2nd cousin is VP in charge of all shows/entertainment at Disney hotels, resorts and parks. As family we get in free... We got hooked up last time I was there (when I was a kid). Best seats to every show, grand marshals of a parade. Was VERY nice...
Still had to stand in line at rides though
