The Alpha Nu chapter of Delta Gamma at U of So Cal is over 200 members, and the largest DG chapter in the nation.

I believe some LSU chapters, XO, DDD, KD are around or at 200 as well.

BrownEyedGirl, I know this has nothing to do with your original post.. but I had to jump on the large chapter bandwagon!!!! Just proud to be a Pi Phi:

U. of Ok: 255
UT-Austin: 245
Baylor: 238
Auburn: 218**
TX Tech: 215
TX A&M: 213
U. of Flordia: 201
LSU: 200**
U. of Kansas: 198
U. of Arizona: 194
Okalhoma State: 188
UGa: 187
SMU: 185
Kansas State: 181
U. of Illinois: 181
U. of Arkansas: 180
U. of Colorado: 180
Wake Forrest: 180

**Straight from current roster. The rest are the number of ladies initiated in the last four years... if everyone is still active that number would be the current active chapter number.**

Our EO tries not to publish exact numbers, but I've always heard that the Delta Chapter of ADPi (University of Texas, Austin) is by far the largest chapter. Supposedly, if they don't make quota+, they need to explain why - as in, there's a legacy we want but she needs to make grades first. I saw one of their composites once, and there were over 250 members.

But the Clemson Chapter certainly doesn't sound shabby!

Actually, that would probably make an interesting poll: how big was/is your chapter, and how big is too big? I know a lovely ChiO who was in a chapter of over 200 members, and she considers herself so detached from the idea of sisterhood. That saddened me.

Not sure on the exact numbers since UCF hasn't published them in a while. At the big 3 in Florida (UF, UCF, FSU), sorority chapters average around 150 in each chapter. That's just the average. The largest sororities at UCF (ZTA, AZD, ADPi, Tri-Delta, KD) all have around 170-190 girls. Last year, quota was 67! In my 4 years, the largest quota number we had was formal recruitment 2000 when quota was 71!

Just a little helpful info...

ADPi here (USC) is 180 strong and quota usually sits around 60... so even if they graduate 50 seniors (which is doubtful since the year most of them came through quota was 30) they will be at 190... I wouldn't think that ADPi at Clemson would be able to beat that with quota being lower.

WOW! i can't imagine having chapters that large. all the sororities at penn state are capped at 85 (i think) and the only reason you can go over that is because you have to do formal recruitment in the fall. the sororities at psu average between 65 and 70. this past fall quota was only 18 and several sororities didn't make it largely due to low recruitment numbers and the number of girls dropping out. i think 15 out of the 20 sororities at psu had to do spring recruiment this year. mad props to those in huge sororities i think i'd be overwhelmed as a new member!

Let me clear something up about our university, after Sigma Kappa's post. We don't necessarily LIKE being as large as we are... that's why we're bringing on another sorority. The pledge classes are complaining that they don't know the sisters or even their pledge sisters, and they're complaining that these large sizes are too large. The sisters are complaining that it's hard to keep track of those large pledge classes as well. I wish we had a cap, at times. It would make things so much easier, but right now sororities are allowed to pledge to average... 130. And 6 of the 9 sororities are at or above average.

it does sound like your pahellenic needs to expand. with that many girls wanting to join a sorority, they could form a new one. there are several groups that want to join our panhellenic, namely TPA and AGD both to recolonize, but there just isn't the demand for another sorority right now. with 20 sororities it's hard to have pledge classes larger than about 25 just because of the number of girls going through have so many more choices. i'm still in awe and have mad respect for the huge chapters at other schools.

I know for a fact that chapter average at UCF is 151. That's how much we've been allowed to recruit up to this spring, as a new chapter. Kappa's pushing about 130 or 140- I'm not sure of exact numbers offhand. I've actually heard that ZTA and KD are over 200 by now, but I'm not sure how accurate that is.
