Friday nite my alum chapter was invited to join in the probationary members' final event before initiation. It's a paddle party, where the PM's decorate their paddles and relax because they've made it through their pledging/new member/whatever period.
The collegiate chapter bought pizza & pop and hosted it. The PMs had a sort of "hunt" to find their bigs, who then led them to the party. We got introduced to EVERY single member (around 40, so that took some time!). We also traced our "family trees".. and my family is *huge*!
It was a great time! They have a poster on the wall with all of their semester goals. One of the goals is to strengthen ties with alumni. Our alum chapter just reorganized last spring, so we're pretty small. So we're looking forward to welcoming some graduating seniors in a few months.
Anyway, I just wanted to share the story. I know a lot of undergrads feel like the alumni want to run things, & a lot of alumni feel like the undergrads don't want them around. So it was great to get together and just have fun.
Edited to clarify: In that last paragraph I'm referring to undergrads & alums in the most generic of terms... not specific to my chapter, but to all GLOs in general
