Bent Brims
When did this trend start and where did it come from? I thought about this when my dad took of his baseball cap today. By habit, I picked it up and bent the brim. He got mad at me for doing it because he likes his brims wide, lol.

They've been doing it since I was in middle school, at least...that's the first time I noticed it. I'm sure it's like everything else, though; every generation thinks they invented it.

If you're talking about what I think you are, they've been doing it at least since I was a little kid.

They've done it forever and I bet it started with baseball players doing it a long time ago. Regardless I have many caps and extensive knowledge on how to bend it just right (it's a 3 day process).

Oh, you HAVE to bend the brim! Also, it doesn't hurt to drive over it with your car or take a razor blade to the edge, to give it that perfectly worn-in look.

Same with me. I didn't notice it until the mid 90's. At that time I only saw "fraternity type" of guys wear them. Around 2000 almost everyone started wearing their caps bent. However, like Rudey and DeltAlum, my parents said that people have been wearing their caps like that forever. I guess I haven't noticed it before then either.

I have to razor all the bills on my baseball caps...can't stand to have them looking new, even though I hardly ever wear them as it is. I thought I invented that...

Nah because then you look like a poser...that needs to happen naturally along with the dirt and sweat stains.

I agree.. I HATED when all those caps with the ripped brims became wicked popular.
I can remeber when I was younger, my dad lecturing me and trying to teach me how to "properly" bend a brim.

Assuming you'd actually wear a hat with dirt and sweat stains on. Ew.

UGH... Its not 'bending a brim'. That sounds like some chit you do if you accidently mess up the top of your starbucks cup.
Its called, 'shaping the bill.'
I first heard of its importance in 1993, when my bud Vaughn showed me the intracies of the process using a freezer, empty canned food can, rubber band, and a dish washing machine.
Have since seen it refined to a quick 10 minute series of hand movements, that perfectly shapes the bill if repeated daily for a week.
Dont ask. Cant be explained in text. Its like trying to explain the color orange to a blind dude. Ya just gotta see it.
Works tho. All my bills be perfect.
Also helps if the hat lends itself to shaping. Cant describe what qualifies a hat. Its like the supreme court said about porn. "I cant describe it, but I know it when I see it." lol.

Without a doubt...I mean it's nice to have it clean so the stains are there but the sweat and dirt aren't really there ya know?

I would rather be a poser who artificially breaks in my hat than look ridiculous with a too-clean hat trying to get it too that point - I don't wear hats enough for them to get broken-in on their own. Plus, I'm a girl - we don't sweat, we glisten!

Lately I've been wondering if the bent rims were kind of over because I've seen a lot of rap videos with the guys wearing them wide.
