San Luis Obispo

Can anyone tell me what it's like there? I'm honestly tired of the superficial life here in San Diego, and my chapt shows no signs of change for the better. I'm thinking I want to go to a place where I can start anew. I've heard Epsilon Rho is a good chapter, and the one time I visited SLO, I liked it. But there are other things I wanted to know:

How is the:

Party Scene?
Greek Life?
Living Conditions/standard of living?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SLO is a VERY VERY college town... like almost half the population is gone during break times... it's BEAUTIFUL there...great weather.. pretty close to the ocean... in between the two VERY metro areas of LA and San Fran. (about 3-4 hours from each) If you like the idea of being in a college town I'd def. say check into transfering, as with most college towns, ALL there is to do for fun is party or see a movie...(especially if you don't have a car.. if you do there is more to do out door activity wise) I'm not TOO sure about greek life there except it's pretty strong... but it's not one of those school where you HAVE to be greek to have a social life, which I think is true with most Cali schools ... but yeah I just got back from visiting my friend there and I liked it.. I can't see myself in a college town though so I would never transfer there.

SLO rocks.

Coupla things:

* Generally speaking, there are two populations in SLO - the students and the retired folks. The old people can become tiresome and a thorn in the side. There are actually groups here that spend their time going from house to house, trying to find zoning violations in order to get students kicked out of their neighborhoods. Having said that, I would say this is the exception rather than the rule.
[edit]
Just to add to this, a co-worker informed me today of a petition going around his neighborhood to eliminate parking on the streets after 11pm. Anyone wishing to do so must have a special parking permit, else they will be ticketed by the police. IMHO, if you don't want to deal with students, then get the f*ck out of a student neighborhood. I don't care who lived there first - once the students start to take over, they're never going to leave.
[/edit]
* The cops are dicks. They do NOT like greeks.
* The greek scene is great. You get out of it what you put in.
* The standard of living is very nice. Part of the reason that the cops are dicks is to prevent SLO from becoming a student ghetto like Isla Vista. It's a bit pricey to live here, but I'm sure it's no worse than San Diego.
* The best thing about SLO is that it has many big-city conveniences even though the population is only ~40,000. If you can't find it here, you can drive 30 mins. north or south. If you can't find it there, you can drive 100 miles down to Santa Barbara.

I'd say go for it. For housing, check out these rental agencies:

http://www.farrellsmyth.com
http://www.california-west.com

I have used them both and I am quite happy with them.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Good luck!

i was born and raised in san luis obispo and i absolutely love it.... i miss it so much now that i'm in southern cali for college.

the party scene is good...

greek life there is good (some of the hottest fraternities i've ever seen)..

and the town is one of the hidden treasures of california.. it's beautiful, clean, near the beach, bigger than a tiny town, but smaller than a city.. there's plenty to do and its half way between LA and SF so you can go to either on weekends and etc..

Update:

I sent in my application, but I don't think I'm going to get in. SDSU's average GPA is 2.7, which I have. Poly's averga GPA is 3.3.........

That's what happens when you want to go from a party school to a smart school....

Please guys, hope for me. I need out of San Diego!!!!!!!!!!!
