halls/ houses

Okay, this might not apply to the chapters which have houses but Im not sure. We are trying to come up with incentives for living on the hall since a few sisters each semester try to wiggle their way out of it. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to attract sisters to living on the hall. We do have fines for not fulfilling the requirement but nothing positive to make girls excited about living on the hall and maybe wanting to stay longer than their required time. Any suggestions??

I think its more a matter of living space and privacy...communal bathrooms aren't exactly popular.

I don't think this problem is unique to your chapter or to DG. If the chapter is in a dorm, the only advantage of living there is the togetherness - unlike a house, it doesn't offer gracious living or a meal plan. Many sisters would rather live off-campus (if allowed), in a single room elsewhere on campus, or with other friends.

I agree that members should be required to live in, except in very unusual circumstances (such as being married, for example). Living out should be a privilege earned by years of membership and participation in chapter life.

But the chapter also has to make dorm living inviting. Is it decorated cozily? Do sisters hang out there? Are non-members able to wander the halls? The corp board should be doing what it can to erase the disadvantages that can come with dorm housing.
