quota question

If quota is set at lets say 8, I have heard that some chapters can go over by one but can they go over that by 3 and this is formal rush we are talking about. Is that fair to all the other chapters if not all are reaching the quota to begin with????

The NPC "greek book" says that quota additions can be used if proper release figures are used by all chapters during formal recruitment. Quota addition is not supposed to be more than 5% of quota to any one chapter.

So with your example, assuming that release figures were used and quota addition is allowed, with 5% of quota of 8 would be .4. But since you can't have .4 of a person it would be rounded up to 1. Thus, quota addition would be 1 not three.

NOTE: if you look at the numbers, quota addition increases by 1 each time quota goes over a number divisible by 20 ...

1-20 - QA: 1
21-40 - QA: 2
41-60 - QA: 3
61-80 - QA: 4

There are also other restrictions when considering quota addition such as no PNM can be considered for quota addition if she did not attend all events for which she had room on her schedule. Nor can a PNM and chapter be forced matched.. in other words the PNM must be on the chapter's bid list and the chapter must have been listed on the PNM's preference card. Also, no one who makes a single intential preference should be considered for quota addition.

I believe that those sections of the Greenbook are recommendations, not unanimous agreements, and that collegiate panhellenics may make rules that differ from those recommendations. On several of the campuses I work with we routinely vote to match all women who did not Intentional Single Preference. This often results in more quota additions than the Greenbook recommends but it also results in better campus sentiments toward the Greek System than in situations where there are a lot of women cross-cut.

Dumb question, but could they have been snap bids or last-minute COB by a chapter that is under total?

I know at Valpo, sororities can start COBing and issuing bids to people who didn't go through formal recruitment (or who dropped out) about 3-5 hours after Bid Day revealing/matching/welcoming officially begins. If there was someone who went through 3 days of parties, dropped, etc. I *think* they might be able to offer snap bids or quickie COB.

If someone went through three days of parties they are eligible for a snap bid and do not need to wait until COb begins to offer them a bid, per the green book.

But snap bidding is an option only available to chapters which did not fill quota. Snap bidding is supposed to be done after bid matching and before the distribution of bids and is limited to any woman who participated in the formal recruitment and those chapters that did not make quota. Snap bids should never be used to make up quota addition or to take a chapter over quota. Snap bidding is not intended to fill spaces in chapter total. If the chapter is under total even after taking quota, then COB bids can be extended but not until after formal bids have been extended but not snap bids.

OK take this situation...XYZ has made quota but is still 10 under total. Susie has gone through formal rush and for whatever reason, didn't match with a sorority. Can XYZ give Susie a bid, or do they have to wait for the other groups that didn't make quota to decide if they want her?

Chapters that did not make quota can offer her a snap bid or a COB bid. Chapters that made quota but are not at total can offer her a COB bid after formal recruitment. On some campuses there are waiting periods for COB for chapters that have made quota so that chapters that did not pledge quota have a better opportunity to fill their quota opportunities.

Sorry guess I realized that most people realized the intention of snap bidding...what a lot of campuses do not realize is who is eligible for snap bidding.

For example, a lot of campuses still believe that if a women SIP's (single intentional preference) that she is NOT eligible for snap bidding. This actually changed a few years ago and that women is now eligible.
