insulted to your face

I am in several other campus organizations. I had to go on a retreat this weekend and be in close quarters with several people who were members of other fraternities. During this retreat I ended up sitting with one of them at some fancy restaurant.

I attempted to have a discussion, but he just proceeded to talk shit on like every other fraternity. "I don't like --- they're a bunch of stupid people and drunkards" (pot calling the kettle black!) "they are real tools. "And phi kappa theta, they're a bunch of tools too, they suck" then someone else asked me my affiliation and I said PKT... then he responded "heheahah... thats why I said that, to bust his chops"

WTF

You know, take that sort of thing with a grain of salt. It's not even worth getting upset about.

Yah know though, it's stupid shit like that, that causes rivalry and hurts the entire greek community as a whole. It isn't a very "Greek" thing to do, making fun of other houses. But yah, take what the dude said witha grain of salt. He's not worht the time and don't think he represents his brothers, they could have different opinions.

Either way, I say grin and bear it.

Arrow Since we're on the subject...

Since we're on the subject about being insulted, here's my case.

I'm currently the Alumna Advisor (first semester) for my organization and had one of my sister's come to me with a concern this past week.

As she was walking by the table of one of the other orgs, one of the members made the comment, "Ho, Ho, Ho." Now, here's the story behing that:
- My sister is dating one of their sister's ex (they had broken up before my sister had even started attending the university).
- The girls claim to have been looking at a X-mas catalog.
- These girls have never hidden the fact that they don't like us. (We've had PNM come up and ask us if it was true that we weren't taking in new members.)
We've always ignored comments and rumors. Our greek community is sooooo small that it's not worth making things into such a big deal. Besides, we're the newcomers. Yet, will it ever end?

My question to you is, should we ignore this like most of everything else, or should we go ahead and make a report of the incident and present it the the Unified Greek Council or their Advisor? By the way, even the other orgs know that they don't like us.

Feel free to post a reply or PM me.

Re: Since we're on the subject...

Sounds too petty unless its a Rush infraction . . .

Its hard to prove context.

Jenny doesn't like me. How do I prove that? So Jenny says evil things about me behind my back . . How do I prove that either? Even if people tell me and I could document one or two incidents . . it would be a drop in the bucket . . . people would be like: is that it?

The best revenge on anyone is living and doing well. My advice to you is to out perform them.

Don Henley (Eagles) coined a phrase , "Graceless age." Yes, I think we are living a graceless age.
When civility is replaced with "in your face" attitudes, and our interaction with others is crude, offensive or down right violent, it makes me think people are turning into skuzz balls...

Yes, there will always be rivalry and most of the actions/deeds
discussed on GC are NOT new-they have been happening for YEARS. Yet, it just seems we are seeing new and lower lows.

What the hell! James, you and I have been in agreement lately and this is no exception. It's very hard to prove a dirty rush infraction. The best revenge on anyone is living and doing well. My advice to you is to out perform them.

archangel689 my daughter had a similar experience at a Greek Retreat last year. The only difference was this young "lady" from another sorority made comments about other sororities in front of some other GLOs (male and female). Well, she got hers from a very nice Acacia!
If we allow one GLO to knock down another, we perpetuate the
situation and it makes the whole system weak. If you see it happening, call the perpetrator on it! If you do it...STOP!

These times are so uncertain
There's a yearning undefined
People filled with rage
We all need a little tenderness
How can love survive in such a graceless age ?
The trust and self-assurance that lead to happiness
They're the very things we kill, I guess
Pride and competition
Cannot fill these empty arms
And the work I put between us
Doesn't keep me warm

cat out of the bag

Maybe its time to let the cat out of the bag.

The guy who insulted my fraternity is a member of a fraternity on campus that died and recolonized almost immediately. They are huge in terms of numbers. They are the largest on campus, however they have yet to chapterize.

All the other fraternities are at odds with them because they freely cut down other fraternities. There are many things I've seen them do: booing other groups durring greek week, tripping other competitors in the greek relay race, etc etc etc.

Charges were placed against them by a certain local (one which is very highly respected and the first fraternity ever at our university), the charges were nullified and dropped by the IFC (for god knows what reason-- the director of greek life basically ram-rods the ifc here anyhow), and charges were placed against the local by the director of greek life.

Supposedly the fraternity is getting away with garbage because the assistant director of greek life is a member of their fraternity and their advisor covers up any bad things that happen. "whatever this fraternity does thats bad, stays in the fraternity" he has been quoted as saying.

Now one of our advisors was the founding president of his colleges IFC, he wants to get involved in the IFC but keeps getting bullshitted out of it by the director.....for some reason.

This is my personal opinion and may not reflex the opinion of my organization.
