Unhappy Bee Gee, Maurice Gibb, dies.

I heard he was rushed to the hospital yesterday and now he is dead...at 53. I LOVED the Bee Gees. The first album I bought was for the song (ummm name?) ....I've just got to get a message to you.
Others that I wore out listening to were
"Run to Me" and the beautiful "To Love Somebody".
I saw them on PBS during the Christmas Season, and I could't help thinking how much an impact they had, (Saturday Night Fever) and created the ultimate studio sound. I am very sad...kind of like when Natalie Wood died.

They were such a big part of my childhood in the 70s. I remember when "Jive Talkin'" came out, my sister bought the 45 and played it for HOURS on end (I was about 4 or 5 when it came out). My favourite song of theirs is still "Fanny Be Tender".

He'll be missed. I think a lot of people overlook them because of their disco stuff, but they were a very influential band.

Great record...

I was a huge "before disco" Bee Gees fan, and even enjoyed some of the later stuff. I played some of their early stuff on the radio while I was in college.

I can't remember whether it was Maurice or Barry who did an album with Barbara Streisand, which was really good.

I'm still in shock.

My mom used to play BeeGees records all the time when I was a kid and I've always appreciated their music just as much as she does.

Just like Andy, he was gone too soon.

I just read about his untimely death. I loved the Bee Gees when I was little. I just watched Saturday Night fever the other night.

Unhappy

I am really sad to hear that. He left us much too soon. The Bee Gees sure had some great songs. I think the Saturday Night Fever album was a great one. It was Barry who did the album with Barbara Streisand. I remember it was up for album of the year in the Grammys and lost to Christopher Cross, who I can't stand. I don't think I have ever watched the Grammys since then because I was so mad.

One of our childhood most prized possessions was our Saturday Night Fever album...and it became even MORE treasured when Maurice Gibb actually autographed it!!

(He was a patient of my father's about 25-28 yrs ago..)

This came as a total shock to me. He was so young. It really is a shame. I feel for his family.

First, he was my fave Bee Gee. He sruck me as the "father figure" the group. And also, just a note, I had no idea this WHOLE time his name was pronounced as though it was spelled "Morris"...
