So upset...please read.

Hi ladies,

This past fall I was elected to the positions of Vice-president Member Development and Greek Week Captain for 2003. I understood all of the policies that went along with having a position, including maintaining at least a 2.2 to remain in Good Standing.

During the last school year, I dealt with a chronic kidney condition, which eventually led to the removal of my kidney over the summer. I missed a lot of school due to the fact that I couldn’t even get out of bed half the time. I ended up taking an “Incomplete” in one class, only because it was too late to withdraw and get my money back. I basically didn’t even go to the class. I was THAT sick. I retook the class this semester and did very well in it. The grade isn’t in yet, but I got either an A- or B+. Since I retook the class due to the Incomplete, it doesn’t show up on my report card. My report card grades show that I did not make grades. But, once you add in the Incomplete grade, I am well over the required GPA to remain in Good Standing.

Executive Council turned in grades yesterday. I was at this meeting and reminded them of my situation, and told them I would have the grade I earned in the retaken class by Wednesday and to please understand that I did indeed make grades. After a vote taken by the Executive Council, they decided that my grade DIDN’T COUNT AND THEY TOOK MY POSITIONS AWAY. They said that even though I did the work THIS semester, I basically took the class starting from square one THIS semester, that it doesn’t count because I registered for it last winter semester. I’m not sure what they don’t understand. Once you average ALL my grades, not just the ones they felt like, I made grades and should be able to retain my positions.

I have never felt so betrayed in my entire life.

I am determined to appeal this case. I need to find out whom to go to next. Our local advisors were at EC, so I want to go just above them. Who would that be? Should I go even higher? I am ready to take this all the way to IHQ if I have to.

What do I do, girls? I haven’t been to bed yet. I have been up all night crying. I’m on the verge of quitting, and I don’t want to do that. PLEASE PM me or respond in some way. I will be happy to answer any questions or anything. I’m desperate, guys. I know you guys will know what to do.

Holly, I'm so sorry that you are upset. I know you must be feeling really terrible, so I guess the first thing that I should tell you is: calm down. This situation is not important enough to run the risk of getting yourself ill again.

If I were you, I would wait until Wednesday before doing anything. See what your grade in the incomplete class turns out to be. At that time, if it puts you above Good Standing, go to your Chapter Adviser and show her the grade. Talk to her one more time. She could probably reopen the discussion at the next EC meeting.

If she says she can't--or won't--reopen the discussion, listen to exactly her reasons why she won't do it. She may very well want to consider this semester's grade, but AGD procedures may not allow her to. Keep in mind that we must abide by the chapter's constitution and bylaws, as well as IHQ's rules. Maybe there is a rule in place that prevents it. I don't know if this is the case or not--but just check to see.

If the situation is not resolved after speaking to your adviser--and only after speaking to your adviser--would I consider speaking to someone on the VST or your PD-C. If something can be resolved on the chapter level, it absolutely should be resolved there. Bringing in the *big squirrels* prematurely can cause a lot of hard feelings. I don't think that is your intent at all.

Anyway, I hope this helps somewhat. I really hope this works out for the best. Just remember that Alpha Gam is a whole lot more than serving as an officer. You should not let this discourage you; nor is this an excuse for you to give up on Alpha Gam. OK? OK.

I still love you..... I think you would have done an awesome job, but sometimes things happen that we just can't control in the chapter. Don't worry, it will all be okay, we always have each other.
