Smile greek info

I was just elected VP of the greek council at my school, and I am trying to put together an information guide for incoming freshmen about greek life.
I know other schools already do this, and I was wondering if someone could give me some tips.
I wanted to explain the basics about rush, and greek life in general.
I'd love to know what everyone thinks are the most important things I should include....quotes or anything.

Any help would be great!

Thanks!

kt

We had a great Greek Week speaker come in last year (Dr. Will Keim) and this is what he stressed as the formula for The meaning of Greek Life.

Brotherhood/Sisterhood + Scholarship + Community Service + Leadership + A Responsible Social Life = The Real Meaning Of Greek Life.

I think that this would be a great place to start for your project. I think that it is very important that you do go in the order that the list above is presented.

I also think that it is important to explain how rush works.

The facts that PhiSigDuchess has listed are really good. Use those and also facts from your school about grades (if they are good compared to the university average) as well as membership in student groups and the leadership positions held. (I know that at my school, the Student body president had been Greek for at least the past 10 years).

Thumbs up

Da Betarulz, I see you get a double post as many do (US)!

You can edit and delete one!

Betarulz is right about the Guest Speaker.

His points were very well represented and right on!

Someone who has been there and seen what it is all about! Oh also, a person who is Pro Greek and will present it that way!

I attended LXA, BN Chapter ( FL. Tech ) as a guest speaker along with the unofficial Historian of LXA. While this Brother was very knowledgeable about the subject he talked about, it was dry toast!

We had to take a break before all died at the tables. I was next and kept it short, sweet, and to the point!

I am a hip shooter when it comes to talking in public! Ha, got an ovation!!!!!

But maybe someone who has the background of a Greek and is still involved would be a good thing!

Show what it ment when they were there, what it means when they left, and what it means to them today as a member of a Greek Organization!

thanks for the help so far...

really every little bit helps...for the last semester my school hasnt had an official greek advisor. Our advisor left over the summer, and for the fall semester we had someone w/ no greek experience holding the position until someone could be hired...so we have been on our own. Anyways, i heard my school has finally hired someone so i cant wait to talk to the new advisor when i get back...

thanks again...and any more advice would be great !!!

My school just put one out for the first time in years. Each house has a little bio. Then describes our Greek Council (IFC/NPC/locals combined into one). Talks about history of Greeks at Beloit...since 1850's. Academic excellence, social progams. (All our parties are all campus so it describes the inclusive nature of our system) and also gives contact info for the Greek Advisor. Oh, it has pics of the houses too i think. I haven't seen it yet that is what i heard though
Good Luck! oh and go to your school's archives if they let you look at them and see if they have old phamplets that you can use as a guide, schools keep a lot of random shit there, we saw old composites in there for some reason. go figure.
