Talking Men and Make Up

Hello Ice Cold Brothers of A Phi A!

I would like to know what you all think about women wearing makeup. I have met so many brothers that prefer that I not wear any. Now, please bear in mind that I don't walk around looking like Tammy Faye Baker, but I do wear makeup almost every day.

Why do men trip about it? I had on make up when they holla'd at me, but later on down the line they usually start complaining about it and trying to change me. Is there something wrong with using cosmetics to enhance our looks as long as we don't go overboard?

You know! They say one thing but mean another! I am of the feeling that most men want their women looking wonderful and presentable. Not all men, but most... Just my opinion.

If a house needs painting then paint it !

Seriously, I think this is an individual choice. I prefer a well-groomed and high maintenance woman. For me that include my girl wearing lipstick, nail polish, and having her hair in check. Make-up is fine as long as one KNOWS HOW to apply it to enhance. I'm sure my taste in women and their style is attributed to my mother. My mother has polished her OWN nails and changed handbags every night at 10:00 since I was a child. This has always been her time to focus on her and she still continues this practice. She is very feminine, beautiful, stylish and most of all intelligent. My mother is the bomb to be a big girl (lol)! When seriously dating a lady I look for many of the attributes that mother possess - - -

That's the thing--some women really don't know HOW to apply makeup correctly. And if you a sistah, have you ever tried to buy a base foundation for your complexion!!! When's the last time Lancome or Estee Lauder made colors that befit us??? You think the little asian stores sell most safest products? Or the product you actually paid for?

Better yet, ESPECIALLY if you're a sistah that likes to relax her hai and you pay for someone to do it for you--not all beauticians passed beauty school with straight A+'s... And you HAVE to get touch ups every single month cuz your hair's like that which in turn costs way too... My touch-ups are $90!!! That's because my stylist is really good, she got my hair to grow, especially after color treatments (I tried to have dark brown undertones with a splash of ash blonde highlights--YES I paid ~$200!!!). Since she gets booked just too fast, you have to make an appt. at least a month to 2 months in advance!!!

Alot of sistahs out here at least, wear their hair locked up, or braided. But even doing that is expensive. And sistahs that choose to wear their hair short, some can get away with it and look really good, others have some issues. And kickin' it Afrolistic is cool if you can handle folx of another color givin' you hell for it. Like just yesterday, girlfriend--I don't know WHAT she did to her hair... But it was like--"so ruff, so tuff out here, baby!!!" I ain't tryin' to hate, but it looked like her mama wasn't a sistah makin' her biracial. And nobody got on her ass about hookin' her hair up--at least lock it up!!! Damn!

Then another thing is I tried to wear my hair the way I saw this actress who played "Haviland" on "Hav Plenty"... She wore at least 3 large cornrolls all going to the back and it highlighted her face. But when I tried to do it, I looked like I was 14 years old, and nobody spoke to me. AND the little 12 year old boys (which could've been my child if I F'ed up when I was a teenager) started trying to pick me up!!! I never wore it like that again.

OH, I have long, coarse, thick, wavy, happy to be nappy hair! It's like a Samoan's or Hawaiian's hair but more coarse--AND I am not mixed with anything that I know of directly...

So MEN, beauty has its costs... Especially out in SoCal-Vegas... Half the stuff is sooooo fake that you can just about buy a whole new body!!! There's the facial wraps, the "pink and the white" arcrylics, the hairdo's, the waxings--the really porno flick french bikini's and the legs AND the Ann Taylor, Needless Markup, Nordstrom's, Robinson's-May---You could do the Marshall's, Ross' and The Rack. There's also the liposuction, the BoTox injections, the Lasering, the permanent makeup!!! Then there's the personal trainer, the nutritionist, the hatha yoga-meditation classes, the massage therapist with the seaweed wrap and the vitamin supplements that cost close to $50 a jar... SEE what we women have to go thru to make you guys think about blinking at us!!! AND yo' girl is ABSOLUTELY lying to you if she doesn't do at least 2+ of things a month!!!

And a well-endowed--around the waist sistah!!! Let's not go there--'cuz Lerner's ain't cheap either!!! And when's the last time Victoria's Secret made a 46DDDD!!! Like NEVER!!!

Why do some guys say "...to be a big girl". Dang, Professor, just say your Mom is the Bomb!" I get that VERY frequently. I am "volumptuous", and "curvacious" , and it trips me out when guys say that I am gorgeous to be full-figured HELLO...Can I just be gorgeous? Can I just be pretty??? Why I got to be 'pretty to be a big girl?' LOL!!!

I just had another thought on this topic.

When I don't wear make-up, I look too young. And don't let me be dressed down, people tell me I look 18 or 19. I always end up getting carded when I go out.

I think that make up in moderation is fine. It accentuates the natural beauty of a woman. Take my wife for instance, she can not put a piece of make up on her face and make my heart pump by looking at her. But when she adds a hint of make up OOOH BOOOY! One thing that does turn my stomach are those women who wear blue or green contacts knowing black people don't have BLUE EYES. Or Black people don't have BLONDE or PLATNUM hair. The Important thing is to leave yourself natural looking.
