The young lady who started the thread asked:

"Is anyone here? Will someone here please speak to me, because I don't understand anything being said here."

The only thing that I understood from Dionysus is "gyros." I pm'ed the girl to explain, but I doubt she'll be coming back anytime soon.

You're making Greece look bad by your rudeness...no one here dissed Greece. Tone it down.

Greek Life began in the United States in 1776 with the founding of Phi Beta Kappa. At that time, the study of the Latin and Greek languages and cultures was a predominant part of higher education. The founders of our organizations looked toward ancient Greece and saw a society and philosophy that they admired, and that is one of the major reasons why our names and mottos are fashioned using Greek letters and translations.

Most of the organizations represented on this board were founded in the 18th and 19th (mostly 19th) centuries. A few were formed in the 20th century. However, the 18th and 19th centuries are the past of the US considering we were founded in 1776 with the Declaration of Independence.

Hope this clarifies things a bit.
