ahh branding..
i do not have a brand, but some of the brothers from the chapter of phi kap on my campus have them (it was all by choice, they wanted to do it. weren't forced). one of the brothers almost lost his leg because he was branded with a heated coated metal hanger, and it got infected.. eeeeeek.. he was in the hospital, but luckily he is okay
so branding. i guess its okay if you can stomach it- eek. painful, and kinda gross looking (til it heals)

Well . . . if you are going to do it, get it done proffessionally for pity sake. Sheeze.
Anyway whatever turns you on you know?
There is a whole sexual fetish that revolves around branding.

Just my opinion, Stupid as Hell DAAAAA!
Does one have to be a moron to do this! Love for a Fraternity is different than being ignorant!

I just have to say it is up to the individual whether they want to permanently mark themselves with a branding.
On another note, there were several quotes in the article from students and faculty at ODU. But look at the date of the article - 1999. I can tell you with confidence, that one gentlemen is no longer the director of student activities and leadership. (I attend Old Dominion University!)

I knew someone who was branded. It was kind of shocking to me at first because I had never heard of such a thing. Once I became accustomed to his brand it was not a big deal. He said that he was branded to show his commitment to his fraternity. I could never do it myself.

There is a fraternity at my school and nearly 75% of the brothers are branded on their a$$ cheek. I have seen it. It's basically just a scar in the shape of their letters. They say its tradition. I figure, whatever floats your boat. All I know is that there will never be any letters on my butt!

I always get the strangest first impressions when I read thread titles. I thought this thread was about cattle branding for ranches. I was about to say "My grandpa has one!!!" But umm.. not that kind...
Anyway.. I think branding is pretty scary and I'm sure it hurt like heck! I have a ton of pride for my GLO, but I think I can show it in other ways and not having to permanently (sp?) scar myself.

Well... OUCH...I have seen people with brands and I do admit that I think they're attractive/interesting in some cases.. But I'll tell ya, muh ass is too delicate for a hot paperclip or hanger!!

My best friend has a brand on her thigh. I was there when it happened, and even though I love her to death, I could never do such a thing... mostly because I'm a wimp, but also, I prefer body modifications of the piercing variety.

there's a perpetual rumor on my campus that one of the sororities brands.....one of my sisters claims she saw a member of this chapter's brand. i don't know if i believe it, but i think brands are horrible. i can't stomach the thought of having something burned into my skin.

The first time I found out about this was at U of Houston. The Omegas had brands on their upper arms. They all walked together and chanted as they clapped, "Omega- Psi Phi, until I die." I HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT!
It was really intimidating to the Freshmen girls, but once we learned that it was a fraternity it SEEMED "OK".
One night I and three other girls went to the Union for a hamburger. Raney started shaking her mustard package back and forth. She didn't realize it, but it was open and was "splatting" the table of Omegas that were behind her. Very deliberately they pushed away from their table, stood up in unison and formed a half circle behind her. Donna an I had our jaws flapping and she turned her head to see what we were staring at. One spoke to her and said words about mustard that we were too scared to remember. I thought we ALL were dead. They walked away but before they were out of earshot they started laughing at us! Then I started laughing (I'm picturing this so I'm cracking up right now)-it spread and the few others there started laughing as well. That was my FIRST and only interaction with an Omega. After that though, I couldn't help but notice whenever they were around and thinking, "Damn, those are some tough guys to get BRANDED!"

Not really tough. Branding is about accepting the pain. IT doesn't last very long either (the process).
Child Birth is accepting much more pain . . .

Just a question:
Isn't branding considered hazing by both NPC and IFC?

My friend's dad was an Omega, and he has a brand of his letters. It actually looks kind of cool. As for me? I would prefer the smell of burning flesh not be associated with Kappa Delta in any way, shape, form......
