Holding Office
Hey everyone, I was just wanting to take a survey of what offices (if any) you all hold in your GLO, or what you want to run for in the future. What did it take to get you there, and is it really time-consuming? We turned in applications last week for new member class offices, and I ended up being
~~~Alternate Junior Panhellenic~~~. I really wish I wasn't an alternate, though, cuz I don't have anything do to really unless someone can't go to a meeting! My first choice was new member president, and my third choice was social chair. At least I got something, though, I guess.
I hold treasurer in my fraternity. It is very time consuming and it takes a lot of work. I have quite a few accounts and investments that I have to look after, almost on a daily basis. It's hard, but i am up to the challenge.
I'm my pledge class philanthropy chair, I figured it was best to get involved early. I really have no idea what I may be in the future, perhaps a rush chairman one summer, and maybe pledge educator or IFC delegate some other time. And of course I could continue the philanthropy route.
So far it hasn't been very time consuming--just telling my pledge brothers how many hours they get for such and such philanthropy or when an opportunity is available. I'm in charge of planning a community service project for our class during initiation week in January, but that seems to be my only big project.
I've held these offices...
- Pledge Class Vice President (not time-consuming at all!)
- Director of Facilities (very time-consuming, hard work)
- Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations (time consuming, fun and extremely worthwhile!)
I am currently my chapter's treasurer and alumnae relations chair. Treasurer isn't TOO time-consuming, except when I have to fill out paperwork. As for alumnae relations, it's not difficult at all. There is no alumnae chapter in close proximity to us, so we really have no one to correspond with.
I think ANY position you hold in your oganization is just great and really makes you see how hard but worthwhile it can be to have so many women/men with all different ideas and views together at one time.
I am currently 1st vice-president in my sorority. I handle leadership, scholarship, and alumni relations. My job is very time consuming but it's all worth while in the end. I think the hardest part of the job is probably keeping the alumni happy. I'm constantly checking in with them for their ideas and input so they don't feel neglected. Other offices I've held include philanthropy chair (a little stressful at times) and pledge class historian.
I would really like to be rush chair this upcoming year. I have lots of really great ideas for skits and such. Plus I have a big big big desire to let other girls know just how awesome my sorority is.
ZetaLuvBunny--Definitely don't be discouraged because you didn't get the office you really wanted. That happened to me when I was a pledge but I didn't let it bother me. I just let the active sisters see that I would make a good leader in the future and they ended up asking me to run for 1st v-p. Definitely become an officer if you can once you're initiated. Being an officer has taught me so many lessons on patience and understanding. I've also become a much better leader by being an officer.
I was the pledge class president (the worst job in the world-I loved every minute of it), and am now currently the scholarship chair.
When I was a collegian I held the following offices at one time or another:
Pledge Class President
Academic Chair
Panhellenic Representative
Greek Week Chair
Social Chair
Recording Secretary (Exec. Board position)
Everything except for Pledge Class President took a great deal of time but I'm the type of person who actually functions more effectively when I have a great deal on my plate. And besides, I got a bunch of dangles for my pin out of it
I'm only in charge of the chapter's webpage. It's the only thing I have time for! I hope that everyone who takes on/took on an office feels like they CAN take on the office and isn't slack! I've seen some lame officers :-P
