Presidential Hope
I cannot speak for all of my bruhs, but I want to know where people stand as far as their voting status in the presidential elections in the fall. Did you know that the polls have George W. Bush leading Al Gore by about 9% of the voters? People where is the representation? If we let this republican take the highest political office in our nation, we as a minority are through. This man is Governor of one of the most racial states in this country. Look at what goes on in Texas. Brothers being executed left and right, The governor (George W. Bush) signing legislation to close down the majority of Historically Black Colleges in that state after promising to the black voters that he wouldn't. And the kicker is that he boldly spoke at that racist University in South Carolina and felt that he owed us, the people, no explanation!! If you don't vote for Gore in the Fall, you have no conscience.

I agree 100%. I will definitely be voting for Al Gore...and for all of you living in New York, PLEASE get out there on election day and vote Hillary Rodham Clinton into office as our next Senator! I'm working as a volunteer for the Hillary/Gore 2000 campaign
which means I, along with some of my fellow democrats, will be out in full force trying to sway the decision of those that are undecided, make sure all registered voters get out to the polls on election day, and get all unregistered people registered. Let's all work together and let our voices be heard!

Dexter, I could not have said that better. I have told everyone that will listen, that this is a very important election, and if George W Bush is voted into office, we as a people are finished. I'm telling everyone I know, if they are registered and don't vote, they may as well not be registered. PEOPLE WAKE UP!!! This is do or die!

This is an issue that I've really been pondering...especially since the election is right around the corner...and the republican national convention is here...
As far as I'm concerned black folks really need to be watching these elections...while we are rapping and singing about being in the club and wearing prada...we need to be concerned about being in the election booth and reading up on candidates!
To have Bush as a president would really be a detriment to Black America as I estimate that the abolition of affirmative action, soaring taxes to benefit the rich, and expanded gun use as well as black folks (not just black men these days)behind bars and on their way to the electric chair...
Also, this candidate may be able to choose the next 3 supreme court justices! which is already guided by a conservative court with court Jester Uncle thomas at the helm...
Plus, most african-americans don't have anything to gain from a conservative republican agenda who would like to forget that Black-Americans exist except for the few crazy militant black republicans (who are not only crazy, but removed from a seeping under-priviledged community)who can not pull themselves up in a classist, racist world because of undo extremities...(sorry for the ramble)
but the best of the two evils (especially in relation to Black Folks) would have to be Gore...
I'm just keepin it real 4 da people...

I must reply to this as my husband & I watch a bit of the Republican convention last night. Did anyone else notice (and please excuse my language...I hate this word but it is the only one that discribes what I saw) the "niggas on parade"? I was literally sick to my stomach as they trotted out minority after minority (included their favorite Colin Powell--whom I have respect for) to tell 'us' why we should come on back to the 'Party of Lincoln'. Then, they panned the crowd and strategicly showed the 3 or 4 Black folks that were actually delegates whooping it up like someone had given them a million dollars. I truly wish we had other options, because as a Christian I am probably more conservative that most democrats; however it would have to be a different kind of Republican to get my vote! That's why the democrats take us for granted....they know we truly have no alternative. So, in a way, I applaud those Black folks that can find their way to the Republican party....let's just hope they are making their voices heard and are not just skinning and grinning glad to be there!

I watched it too both a 2-nite and last night. It was definitely darkie fest 2000...it appauls me how black people join a party that has very close ties to the KKK, Strom Thurmond, Newt Gingrich, JC Watts, Clarence Thomas, and Jessie Helms are all republicans. That's enough right there to make me puke!!!!
I'm definitely afraid that some black people will get carpetbagged into believing that the republican party will work for them. And do we really know that those black people weren't paid to be there?
It bothers me that they are playing the inclusive card when so many are not...while I applaud in Black person's effort to be individual...I can not applaud out and out tokenism at the sake of sacrificing black folks as a whole...it makes me sick sick sick.
Yes, the democrats are full of bull...but those republicans are a lynch mob waiting to happen....as Public Enemy said in the early 90's "can't trust em no no no no!"
just another .06 cents of truth

My feelings completely and then you have to choose between the lesser of two evils. That is why I really do consider myself to have republican views, but I just don't value or like for that matter a lot of people in this party.
It is truly the lesser of two evils and its hard to choose sometimes
(I know ya'll go jump on me for the republican thing)

George Bush's choice for a running mate (Dick Cheney), during his 10 years in congress, has voted against Head Start Funding, against the Equal Rights Amendment, against the Clean Water act and...against the freedom of Nelson Mandela. The republicans are working hard to cloud their record and their REAL views.
DO NOT BE FOOLED!!

Hold on my brothers and sisters!! The democratic party has enslaved black folks for years into programs that have set us back for generations. I am a proud black republican whose parents taught me that no politician can chart my course for me only God can. As a Texan let me inform you about Gov. Bush under his administration he has appointed more minorities than our last governor ( democrat) Also he is for school vouchers which gives the young brothers and sisters a chance to go to some of the better funded schools. I hate to see such venom in reference to Bush, is he perfect no ,but he will be a heck of a Prez. Holler back at me.

I am no fan of Governor Bush, but I don't see how his handling of executions in his state as governor should come into play in the presidential debate. It's not like 50 governors are going to abidicate power to him and give him the right to conduct executions in their states. And federal executions? Extremely rare.
I think we need to stop "skinning and grinning" for ANY party and decide what we want and support only those who can deliver it. I agree with the post that stated that my views are more conservative (I want some more of MY money coming back to ME and MINE; I don't believe government is the answer to our people's problems, etc.), but I just can't get with the cast of characters associated with the Republican party.
I just know err'body with an opinion also has a valid, current voter's registration card and plans on using it in November, right?

I am a democrat and that is the way I am voting ... like many have said - lesser of two evils, but Gore as Pres and Hillary as NY senator is looking pretty good now-a-days.
gmbdos, you talking about what Bush has done, but what is his record, I would show and tell for the election year too (it might have started as far back as a year or two). Don't believe the hype.
And Soror DG, you know I love you but if Bush becomes president he will have a way to influence others to get what he wants, FBI does it all the time - gurl we can talk about that another time. But you are right in saying don't VOTE by party JUST BECAUSE, vote for who will get the job done, I have a card and I plan to use it ... and you better believe it won't be on BUSH or his haters!!
