Thumbs up LOTR - The Two Towers

I went to see it yesterday and thought it was very good. Personally, I liked the first one better because it established the characters and the overall tone of the trilogy. This installment was really three sub-stories (Frodo, Sam Wise, and Golum on the way to Mordor - Merry and Pipin in the forest - Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimly at Helms Deep), but still enjoyable. I hate that I have to wait another year for the next movie!

PIKE viewing

some of the Phi Sigs went with the PIKEs to go see it. . .
they said it was about '3 hours of fighting but seemed like 5 hours'

half of them fell asleep at the theater. . .
and the other half was making jokes . . .

the boys now use LOTR terms to describe something. . .

that's so frodo. . .something done in good intention but is basically a flop

or the best one

why are you being all sauromon on me. . .someone who has betrayed soemthing good

the boys did the same thing with Phanthom Menace. . .people were being 'yodas' or know-it-alls. . .

after a while, it gets annoying. . .

'We aint' going nowhere. . .we can't be stopped. . .we're Phi Sigs for life. . .'

LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT!!!!!!
I am reading the book too-
Actually if you read those types of books they are more like the second one because they do have main characters that split off and you learn more about them.
LOVED IT!
Okay- Gholum's got some major multiple personality disorder going on- when he is fighting with himself I thought I would die laughing!
And the dwarf cracks me up! "Toss me! But don't tell the elf!"
HAHAAHA!
I also like the trees kicking ass!
LOTR RULES!
BTW I bought tickets in advance for my boyfriend and I to see it with his twin and his girlfriend- we all gave it two thumbs up and we got bonus points for being such cool girlfriends, even if it was part of their christmas presents!

I bought advance tickets for my boyfriend too and we saw the last showing last night. I was so tired, but as soon as the movie started, I was wide awake. I LOVED the movie and I can't wait for the next one. Orlando Bloom is yummy...whenever he appeared, the theater went crazy! Definitely a hottie...

I was never an LOTR fan, didnt ever read any of the books, didnt see the first movie, but I went to see The Two Towers on opening night and I must say that it might have been the best movie I have ever seen. Very attention grabbing, interesting, actoin packed, ronmantic, thought provoking AND entertaining. The movie as a whole was very well done, even though it was some 3 horus and 20 min with previews.
PS, yes Orlando Bloom is a hottie!!!

Just saw it today... It was damned long. Pretty good though. Looking forward to the DVD release and the conclusion.

Ent War was the best part.

I went and planted 20 trees in my backyard after the movie.

I felt bad for Gollum/Smeegle. Little guy can't even talk right and is argueing with himself. It was funny when called that one hobbit fat and stupid though.

I like that they really showed Legolas and Gimli's friendship- I really missed that in the first movie.

I didn't find it boring at all. I would have happily watched six hours of that movie.

I went last nite with my boyfriend and another friend of ours. My boyfriend liked it, but my friend & I didn't. (I know, you and all of my friends at home are about to stone us! lol)

It's not that I don't like long movies. I don't like long movies that are completely predictable (no, I haven't read the books. I try and can't get through one single chapter) and take longer than necessary to make a point. This is similar to a male quest film, which I absolutely hate (just ask my film prof), which is part of it. I didn't identify with a single character, which is hard to believe since there are so many "main" characters in this story.

Don't get me wrong, there were some enjoyable moments (Gollum's multiple personality disorder was freakin' hilarious). But after enjoying the first one so much, this was a total let down.

I saw it last night too. I hate to be nit picky or sound like a dork but it strayed a lot from the source material. I don't disagree with any of the things Jackson showed that Tolkien only implied like following Gandalf down the hole in Moria and stuff like that. Those things were all very well done and maintained the perfect spirit of the story. I didn't like all the elf stuff he added which seemed to just make the movie longer. I really didn't like the way some of the way the characterizations were altered from the book (at least in my mind) such as Faramir and the experience in Gondor, Frodo's little breakdown, and Wormtongue being almost as shallow as a cartoon. I also hated Sam's little speech at the end with the voice-over summation. It struck me as pandering and cheesy.

All of that being said, if you judge it on the basis of the movie alone... it was really very good. Great special effects, perfect casting, great storytelling and so much fun you almost forget it's been three hours.
