Badly Written Article

This article was posted in the Risk Management forum. I read it through, twice, and although I think what happened to the student who got beaten up is a absolutely horrible thing, I think the article itself looks like it was written by a freshman high school student.

I don't know if it's just the Public Relations major in me, but it's horrible. Everyone knows that when they write formal papers, you never use words such as "didn't", you write "did not".

What do yall think on the style of the article?

PS. if u are posting on the article, please see the Risk Management forum and post there... thanx

Absolutly right! As I said in the Risk Management forum, this article is the worst, most amateurish thing I've ever seen in a college publication. It sounds like a middle-school journalsim assignment.

not to nitpick, but if we're discussing writing styles and whatnot..shouldn't the grammatically correct topic of this thread be "poorly written article"?

LOL I'm a PR major too, and grammatical things like that bug the CRAP out of me! The worst is when people spell "you're" as in you are as YOUR!!

GAAAAAAAAAH!
I agree! Your right! Oooooops...

Edited to add:

Regarding the comment about "poorly vs. badly," while technically correct, I think "badly" is a stronger word, and fits the situation well in this case.

An aside,

Since we're talking some about grammar, where did "prolly" come from? I notice a lot of GC folks using it. Is it one of those "non words" that has become slang for probably?

Just wondering.

Yes Delt... prolly is the lazy way of typing probably.... I use it quite frequently!

Remember it's the internet... no need to type correctly (ask Tom).

What I REALLY didn't get was at the end of the article where she talked about how the police officer's voice made her nervous when she was interviewing him! Is this some sort of "breaking the fourth wall" a la Ferris Bueller? Unless it's an opinion piece, the author is supposed to be a silent observer.

Yeah. That's why my comment on a Jr. High J-Class project. Dumb.

It sounds like notes to the teacher on how hard the assignment was.
