Mr. CU pageant help

The Panhel at Clarion University is sponsoring a Mr. CU pageant. I was wondering if any other universities hold events like this and what are some of the portions of the contest. Right now we have interview, formal wear, swim wear and talent competitions. What are some other things that you have done, what do you give as prizes, how much do you charge for admission, etc. Thanks for all your help!

Uh, wait... no... no I dont want to see our fraternity boys in swimmies... ick... ick... well... um, okay, I take it back- I think only Sigma Pi and Phi Delts should participate in that section!

I think we are going to run into problems with the talent competition. What can guys do besides sing and dance? Twirl baton?

Hee hee Jess. You might want to specify that the talent competition cannot include eating mass quantities of food or tricks done with body parts.

Have a jar with each candidate's picture and fraternity on it and have a penny competition - change only no bills. The winner gets to donate it to their philanthropy.

Prizes - gift cert. to BiLo or someplace practical and a plaque.

BTW I saw a very Chris Noth-looking guy at the Loomis over ALF...I don't care if he is in a fraternity or not, if this dude is in swimwear, I'm there.

two words all you calrion girls...in clude phi mu alpha and we'd get.....BRAD SCHAKE in swim wera, and formal wear and he would sing to us....what more could a girl want?

My sorority holds our annual Big Man on Campus pageant every March for our Shamrock Project, which raises thousands of dollars each year for Prevent Child Abuse America. We charge admission, which is usually $3. We have the contestants go around with buckets collecting pocket change at school during the week of the pageant, and we also sell ads for the program to local businesses for anywhere from $25-100.
The way it runs is, there's a casual wear section, in which the contestant wears nice, casual clothes, and he is introduced (like if he's in a fraternity, or sports team, and other organizations, his major, awards, etc.)
Then there is a talent portion. We have had guys do everything from spin pizza trays, to sing and play the guitar like Dave Matthews, to breaking bricks by karate chopping them and breathing fire (these were our past 3 winners). Other guys have salsa danced, performed magic tricks, read poetry, sing, play the drums, danced to Nsync, dribbled a basketball, played a beer bong, do a Cocktail-esque routine with bottles....guys can be really creative, don't sell them short.
The next is the formal wear section, where they all wear tuxes, and go model for a little bit, then we narrow them down into semi-finalists. Then there is a question and answer session, where we ask them a typical pageant type question, as well as a sorority trivia question, like what are our colors, our flower, etc.
Then we give out prizes. The first year the prize was skydiving for 2, the next year it was a weekend stay at a resort on Clearwater Beach for 2, and this past year it was a cruise for 2. We got all of these prizes donated. The thing is we need to have the prizes be better and better every year!

We never do a swimsuit competition, because we think the guys are way too immature, and several would probably bust out in Speedos, and we don't really want to see that. Phi Mu and AOII do a pagant very similar to this every year, called Mr. "Universe"ity". I was in charge last year, so I know all about it!!!!!
First, we had an entry fee of $25. Usaully a sorority would sponsor the guy, but sometimes their fraternity did. WE had 3 rounds, with the first being a introduction round. They had to tell their audience their name, chapter, who they were sponsored by, and their "favorites". Those questions ranged from their favorite area restaurant to their favortie cartoon, to their favorite drink. They also had to pick a person, dead, alive, or animated, and tell the audience why they thought it represented them.
The second round was the talent competition. They all had talents, ranging from singing to break dancing to lip syncing to playing the guitar.
Finally, the third round was question and answer, where they had to answer one question, drawn out of a hat. These were questions such as what the worst pick-up line they ever used was, or what was their favorite weekend activity besides partying.
At that point the judges gave their score sheets to women from Phi Mu and AOII to tally. They guys had been scored on originality, honesty, showmanship, and other things like that. We had prizes for all hte contestants taht were donated by area businesses.

We have Mr. College of Charleston every year, and the important thing to remember with a male pageant is to keep it lighthearted and fun. First, we open it up to all campus orgs, not just Greeks. We usually get a local band to play during intermissions and between parts of the pageant. We have a formal wear competition with tuxes donated by Gingiss. We have swimwear with board shorts donated by Quicksilver, but every year there's some guy who thinks it's really funny to come out in Speedos.

We have a Q&A section, but the questions are funny - not like "How would you solve the illiteracy problems in America?" Fun ones have been "if you could be any cartoon character, what would you be?" etc. We call our talent competition the "Lack of Talent Competition." Some guys come out and sing or play an instrument. Some guys recite original poetry. But most are ridiculous. One year a guy sang a song about Winny the Pooh. One guy did an American Pie-esque strip tease. One guy took a pitchfork and threw hay all over the stage (hey, this is south carolina). Another guy chugged 2 cans of root beer while his fraternity brothers did drinking cheers in the audience. Overall, it's just supposed to be funny. We also get a local TV news personality to MC, but remind them that they don't have to be all serious. We had one anchorwoman sport club pants and a leopard print cowboy hat, and she cracked jokes the entire time. And usually if you do that, they'll include something about the pageant on the 11 o'clock news - good FREE PR!

Another good thing to consider, if you're making a t-shirt for the event, make sure it's something that both guys and girls will want to wear. Like pink might not be the best color, ya know?

Moneywise, we charge a $25 entrance fee, and $3 for advanced tix and $5 at the door. We get local businesses to donate either money or prizes. The biggest donors go on the t-shirt, so it's free advertising for them. The prizes are included in the prize packets for the winners, and the rest are used for door prize raffles. We sell raffle tickets at the door for $1 each and announce winners from the audience throughout the pageant.

Our first place winner gets free modeling classes at Millie Lewis (I think one of the sisters has connections there or something). One of the judges is always the lady who runs MIllie Lewis here. One of our past winners, after attending the modeling classes, actually got "discovered" and is now out in Hollywood pursuing an acting career....all thanks to Zeta *sigh*

Tonight was our pageant, and I think it went well for being the first one.

Mr. Black Student Union won Mr. CU 2002. The guys were great sports, and I've never seen so many guys in spandex.

We started our Greek God pageant last year, and the only contestants were Greeks, but everyone was invited to come watch. Our catergories were letters, where each guy came out in his fraternity letters...displayed somewhere on his body (we had a couple of guys strip down and had their letters on their chests or on their boxers), then there was toga where we had one guy in an American flag toga and another in a Rainbow Bright toga, next was talent...and that ranged widely...one guy baked cookies before the pageant and gave them to the judges and the audience...another drank a glass of water from the top of his head without using his hands (something he learned from JackAss)...one did a martial arts type of thing where he kicked balloons at different levels and popped them...and we had one dive into a cup of water (styrofoam so that it just broke when he did his belly flop off the ladder), and then there was the formal wear and question and answer where each contestant was escorted by a sister or new member of the sorority.

Our judges included two faculty, two staff members, and two non-Greek students that were in leadership positions. Prizes were donated by local businesses and included dinner at a restaurant, a free tuxedo rental, hotel accomodations for a night, and gift certificates to stores. We even had a trophy for the winner and each contestant had a sash that he had to wear.
