Yes, yes, yes I will be there!
My poor dear boyfriend has had to deal with me squealing "Harry Potter!" every time something comes on TV about it.
Doubt I'll go opening night, or even the opening weekend... I'll try to hit a later show with as few children as possible. I like my movies without distraction

I'll be there opening day! I'm taking a day off from work - I should count it as staff development, since I work in a school library!!

Previews
Don't get mad, folks, but we're seeing the Sneak Preview on Tuesday.
Hubby works for the Minute Maid Company (subsidiary of Big Coke) and with the extra promotional work comes a few tix.
If anyone wants a run-down on Tuesday, send me a PM!

How I got Hooked on Harry
Chopper--
Harry Potter has that unique quality of connecting with any person in any time or place. Not unlike J R R Tolkein or C S Lewis with their fantasy writings.
IMHO, what I noticed as unique and appealing to all ages is that Harry is an underdog. He was an orphan, mistreated by his relatives, yet in spite of that, he has something special about him that makes him wonderful. Not only that he is a wizard but he even has unique talents within the wizard world. (ie broom flying, and Quidditch, basically the wizard's answer to polo.)
The stories are also believable. There are no "happily ever afters". Life does not get easier when Harry discovers his true identity; in fact, it is only the beginning of his growth. Pick a religion or philosophy in the world, and you will find some part of it that says that personal growth comes through trials and tribulations. Well, Harry's got those. Hence the books. <g>
As I mentioned in another post, my husband works for Minute Maid. We found out about 6 months prior to the first movie release that there would be promotional work for TMMC due to Coca-Cola's deal with the production company. Patrick and I picked up Sorceror's Stone just to see what the hubbub was about, and for him to get an idea of the nuts-and-bolts he would be working with. I decided to glance at the first few pages before work one day out of curiosity. 2 hours and 4 chapters later I was late for work!
Overall, the message that I take away from these is that whoever you are, whatever cards life has dealt you, you have something inherent in you that makes you special. It's only a matter of finding it. This goes whether you are a kid in grammar school, a collegiate, or an adult.

Oooh, I can't wait for Friday! We're having a little pre-movie get together to get pumped! I wonder if there's a recipe out there for adult pumpkin juice?

Chopper, I think it's the fabulous detail that J.R. Rowling puts into her storytelling. If you've ever read Gone With the Wind or the Narnia stories, that'll give you an idea of what her gift of description is like.

I've seen it! I've seen it!
It was released here in England last Friday. I have to say - for some reason I prefer the first movie. "Chamber of Secrets" IS very, very good though - I think the acting is better this time around, and the special effects were fantastic!
I don't remember how long the first one was, but "Chamber of Secrets" did seem a little too long to me - I think it was just over two hours.
It is MUCH scarier, too - I would not take a young child to see this one!
ENJOY!!

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!! We've been counting days since the last movie. We started an actual countdown in June... (You laugh, but only if you haven't read the books or seen the movie.)

Impromptu poll
No spoilers from Chamber of Secrets, I promise.
For those of you who saw the original HP (especially the Quidditch match):
Who thinks the Harry Potter films should be re-shot it IMAX giant-screen format? (Think Quidditch, and you'll get the idea.) Do a short-term distribution at Christmas or something in IMAX theatres.
I'd happily plunk down $25 to be *that* close to a flying broom. <g>
Saw the preview of Chamber of Secrets last night--those going this week, you will NOT be disappointed! I loved watching Jason Isaacs *and* Alan Rickman in the same film, w/ their evil game faces on. You could tell they were loving life in those parts!

The coordinator of my internship went out an bought 27 tickets for the whole class ( we have to pay him back though). We're going to look really out of place on opening night, a bunch of college students! Oh well, I can't deny my love for the books and the movies!
