RM Workshops

Hi everyone...

I'm RM chair for my chapter, and recently passed a bylaw stating that no one can attend a social event unless they have attended a RM workshop on basic first aid and how to help someone who may have alcohol poisoning. Any ideas on how to structure this workshop? Does anyone know of any good sites I can get information off of? Or has anyone done something similar within their own chapter?

Any help at all would be appreciated.

See if your phys ed department offers any kind of first aid class...I know we had first aid in high school phys ed, I would assume that if they're teaching people to be phys ed teachers they would teach that. They would probably be able to give you a basic outline and students might even be able to use it for credit.

You can contact the campus health clinic, counseling center, campus security or the local police department, and MADD or SADD. Usually, these groups can arrange for a speaker to address your chapter about alcohol education.

The obvious in terms of First Aid is the American Red Cross in your area. Your university Health Center is a good suggestion for Alcohol Poisoning.

As others stated, your campus health center has people who deal with this sort of training all the time. They have training in this area and can provide you with all the necessary information. You can also ask your national organization to provide you with information and maybe a consultant to do a workshop.

You could try your local hospital too - see if you can get a nurse/doctor to come and talk. They would also might be able to have more case studies to tell your group about, situations they've experienced when students were admitted with alcohol poisioning and stuff like that.
