20%

Most recently I was at a major event for Greeks and again it seemed like the same old faces came out to represent our orgs. We got into a discussion of why it seems like the same 30-40 greeks show up to events of community service and the rest seem to be no where. Mind you most of the people at the event came in during the 80s and 90s(only 2 Spr 02 members). I am curious is it just something that goes on around here at the Pyramids or is it a national problem. Does it seem like only the same people do the work or is it that maybe we are just not training our neos on how to do the work of the orgs and not just party? I am just curious what everyone else has to say.

If I May

It seems to me that in any organization, greek, social, service, that you have the same 20% of the people doing 80% of the work. In the various organizations that I am involved in on campus, I always see the same faces doing the grunt work and planning all of the events. Even when people don't have to do anything but show up, they still don't come. I think it comes down to choosing people with the right kind of work ethic.

Classy, I agree with you a 1913%! When I was really active in my chapter, it was ME at every community service activity, meeting, you name it I was there. But when there was a Greek party, EVERYBODY and their mommas were up in that stroll line. That ticked me off! I don't know why it's like that, but that's just how it is.

Unfortunately this is something for the Ages....I personally think it goes back to orientation and how a person is introduced to his/her organization. If their DP is not strict on them from the start then after they cross how in the hell do you expect this person to put in work. My Sons all have to put in work prior, during, and after the cross so that work ethic is instlled in them. They know what they are getting into and that this organization is not a one man show. But that work ethic has to be driven home and because we are not a D9 organization "more" work of the individual is required of them. We do not, as some orgs., have the leisure to rest on any laurels because we as an Org. 40 years young still are tweaking what works and what doesn't, WIP. Some Orgs. can boast 200k- 500k members but how many actually put in the work and desire to achieve a common goal. One thing about white GLO's is that with their Alumni they don't put any work in after college they simply write a check and call it a day. That's what makes our orgs. special the work really starts when you hit the Grad level.
