Big/Lil Sis

Thursday is our Big/Lil revealing and yesterday we received our first clue. I am almost positive I got my first choice but my friend is positive that she didn't get anyone on her list (her clue was that her big has blonde hair and no one on her list had blonde hair). She's kind of disappointed and I'm trying to cheer her up but it's hard since I probably got my first choice and can't really relate. So if anyone has had this happen to them please share your stories cuz i would really like to cheer her up! Thanks!!

Sorry your friend is disappointed. Maybe the clue is a fake one to throw her off. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I did get my first choice in a big sister, but I was not so lucky in little sisters. My sophomore year, an upperclassman wanted the little sister that I wanted (she wanted me, too), so the little sister I wanted got her and my little sister was someone I was not close to. This was back in the olden days when the pledge period was a whole semester--my little sister didn't make her grades, but the one that I wanted did! The next year I got the little sister I wanted, but she didn't make her grades either.

The only little sister I had who was initiated was my freshman year when our chapter was the big sister chapter for a new chapter at another university. She now lives in my hometown and works with one of my blood sisters!

The bottom line is that everyone in your chapter is a sister and the big/little relationship should not preclude any friendships. I understand how special that relationship is though, and I understand her disappointment.

With the shortened pledge periods now, it might be hard to really get to know everyone in a chapter before this decision has to be made. If your friend didn't get her choice, I hope she will get to know whoever is her big sister and form a strong relationship with her. Either way, I hope this does not cloud her sorority experience because the alum part of it lasts a whole lot longer than the active part does!

I bet the blond hair clue is there to throw her off. If I ever have a little, one of my clues is that I have curly hair. I do have curly hair but I always blow dry it straight so no one knows that it's curly.

Maybe her big has naturally blond hair but always dyes it a different color.

If it is the case that this girl is not someone your pledge sister wanted, you should tell her to give her big a chance. She may find that it's some one she can become really close to. My big wan't on my list but I love her. Unfortunately she's gone now, and I don't see her. Just try to toell her to give her big a chance, and not worry so much.

We do it very differently in my chapter-- you get you big/ little the night of your pinning. The girls do make a list and we try to match it up but since you might not really have gotten to know all of the girls she might be really surprised. I think getting someone not on your list is good. If it is someone on your list that proably means that you already know her and will remain close to her in the sorority. But if you get someone that is not on your list that means that you will get closer to one more person a little faster than you would before.

Exactly my thought! I always said that when I had a little I was going to give her false clues so she would have no idea who it was. When I got my little though, I didn't give her any clues!! We lived in the same dorm, so we would hang out in the lounge almost every night. I remember her asking me what her big liked b/c she wanted to get her big a gift for discovery. I told her, "I think your big likes.....b/c I once over heard hear tell someone." She had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA that I was her big. Because of our late night lounge talks, she figured I was not her big. She was rather bummed about it, so when we had discovery and she found out I was her big, she was very excited about it!

If that is not how things work out for your friend, tell her to give her big a chance. There is a reason why she was matched up with whomever she was matched up with. Most likely, she and whoever her big is will have a wonderful time being big and lil.

In our chapter almost all of the clues given out are fake. When my mom gave clues, I don't think a single one of them was true. She came up with all sorts of stuff like...I was caught shoplifting underwear, I'm tall with blond hair (she's really short with dark hair), I'm a Sig Tau groupie (they only had around 5 members last year and have since lost their charter), and a bunch of other off the wall stuff. In our chapter you have a better chance guessing who it was by imagining the oppisite of your clues.

I'm sure that it is a clue to throw her off....I did something like that with my little from this semesters pledge class. I knew that she wanted me as her big and I continued to tell her over and over again that I was not taking a little. However, my name was still on the list of bigs...hmmmm

So anyways....I didn't want her to know right away that it was me so I made her a sign in the house that said that I drive a black car (I really drive a white one....unless I actually do drive my dad's black truck), I hate to exercise (which is somewhat true but I play sports all the time), and my hair is changeable (because it can be curly and straight whenever I want and she had never seen it straight before). It worked and it completely threw her off! She was thrilled that I was her big!

Just a thought from my personal experience. I didn't get my first, second, or third choices for my big. I actually don't remember if I even had my big on my list, but she was a great big and I am glad that I am her little. She is an Alumnae now but we still talk every so often to keep each other informed on what is going on with our lives. Your friend, I'm sure, will be happy with whomever she gets as a big.

Yay!! So I am assuming you already had discovery?? I am glad everything worked out how you wanted.
