Hooray for the UCF greeks for standing up for our rights

A smaller homecoming for UCF this year because of new rules hurting greeks there...

wow, nice way to let them know how you stand. it's really cool that all the greek organizations got together to make a unified float.

They may have only been 7 or so out of 70 floats... But who do you think ALWAYS has the best floats in the homecoming parade?

It's either the greeks or Bank of America's float... hmm

UCF has been putting these ridiculous rules on us so this is our way of rebelling. It's too bad because the floats are so much fun to do.
Kappa Sig usually wins every year for the best float. The greeks do AMAZING floats. We will definitely be missed this year.

One of the new rules is that if lets say you're an ZTA and you're downtown with some of your friends who don't even happen to be in a fraternity or sorority. Let's say that you get arrested for something alcohol related. ZTA can lose their charter for that one person, who wasn't even with other ZTA, and who is downtown on their free-will (non-sorority function). It's ridiculous. UCF would NEVER impose that on, let's say, the Skydiving Club. The Skydiving Club would not get suspended if one of their members is arrested downtown. I feel that the university is holding the greeks to a higher standard than the rest of the school.

Thumbs up

I have said this on many different threeads! If not for the Greeks there would not be S#@*T for floats!

Ha, only 9 out of 70 units!

Hell, they are more than likely, high school bands, Horses, and Shriners!

People look for Floats!

I suggested this to my guys at PSU several times.

It has gotten so expensive to build floats, that Greek Organizations have gotten together! But with 6 Fraternitys and 3 Soroitys, it is tuff!

This year, LXA and STG, 2 Fraternitys are going together! Hell must be the first time ever that to Guy Groups work together on something this important!

I think it is great for relationships!

Something UCF might try....

We have a similar rule at our school. It's not so harsh but it states that 3 or more members gathered in one place constitutes a group sponsored event -- and we're a dry campus.

They've never tried to enforce it in the 3 years it's been around.

There have been some noises made that we might involve the ACLU if they don't repeal it because we feel it infringes on our legal rights.

You may want to give the ACLU a call about this edict by the school. They may be willing to help you out.

Why Do You Put Up With That?

Who makes up these ridiculous rules you're talking about? They clearly violate all sorts of civil rights protections. Don't wait for someone to get in trouble and then try to fight the imposition of some sort of illegal nonsense! Now, today, get a civil rights attorney to go directly to the University General Counsel and explain to him/her the tenuous position that the University has been placed in because of some nimrod rule-maker. And for goodness sakes, don't allow IFC or PanHel to sign off on this garbage, because then the administrator will say, "Oh, the students themselves have made those rules."

LOL, bolingbaker! I haven't heard anybody say "nimrod" in 30 years!

But yes, ZTAngel, y'all need to cover your butts now. Get local Greek lawyers--they ought to take the case free. It's not fair and should be fought immediately.

I think it's pretty sad that they won't let the Greeks build the floats! And UCF Greeks, by far, had the BEST floats!! The unified Greek float is a good idea, but it's just not the same. That was a huge tradition when I was in school! Skit night and the float were two of my favorite things about homecoming. I remember staying up the whole night before at Tinker field getting the float ready for the parade! It was a huge party!

ZTAngel- maybe I'll see you on Saturday!
