Sh*t talking fraternity

I need to get a different perspective on this subject, so tell me what you think. Our rival on campus has made a point to talk shit about us constantly, to sorority girls, potential new members and pretty much anybody who'll listen. We have been approached by people all semester saying how these guys talk crap about us. I guess one thing said was that we have no brotherhood and we try to steal each others girlfriends.....bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. Well, this week they have gone too far. They were banned from having parties for the first 6 weeks of school, so this friday is their first party. On the party banner it says " Do you remember the last time you had fun at the Pike House? We don't!" I mean this crap that they are pulling is getting out of hand, and it gets worse as the semester goes on. I think one of the reasons they are doing this is because of jealousy, since they only have 4 new members and we have 19. But these guys are treading the thin line of getting a beatdown if they dont cut the shit.

It could be an opportunity to take the high road.

Instead of the attitude that if someone starts something with us we'll start something back.. Just let them dig their own graves.

It's college and most people can see this for what it is. A crappy chapter's attempt at making themselves look better at the expense of another. Just ride it out... When it comes to rush you'll end up with the guys that were turned off by all the BS they were spouting.

No worries man.. if the BS is that thick people can smell it a mile away.

Or you could always just burn their house down

yeah, we thought about burning the house down but that could get too messy.

But we are pretty much ignoring it, and it did kill them on rush, but a lot of our guys are starting to get more and more rilled up after every little thing they hear. I'm afraid it's just going to explode to a head one day.

I agree with ktsnake!

People with any sense will see that this is ONE sided and they are the only ones talking trash. Doesn't exactly make those guys look classy if you ask me.

This *is* college.. if they want to act like 5 yr-olds, let 'em.. people will see what they really are by their actions and words.

KT is right, take the high road. In the end, you will be the ones who look better to the campus.

I'll throw in another vote for taking the high road. I'm sure they're not fooling anyone with anything they're saying, so why be upset about it? Just ignore them and you'll come out looking even better.

They are jealous or insecure or just jerks. Kill them with kindness. Be the gentlemen that you know you are, and no one will believe their gossip. It's so sad when people have to resort to spreading lies and rumors to make themselves feel better.

Girls notice this kind of thing! Trust me.... somewhere these guys are talking dirt about your fraternity AGAIN to some group of sorority girls.....

and the girls are rolling their eyes and laughing about how lame they are.

Do you have a Greek Advisor? If so, I would make an account of all situations where they have been disrespectful and/or crossed the line and submit it to him/her.

Let me get this straight...they made a BANNER to talk isht about you??!?

If everyone on campus doesn't look at that and say "those dudes that made that are LAME" then I will be very surprised. I wouldn't even consider someone like that rivals - just the annoying fly that you swat away from your picnic.

Well, that happens to us all the time. Since we're the Animal House, people just think we're a bunch of drunk slackers. No.

Our "rival" so to speak throws it in our face that our house didn't get finished in time for rush. The other houses (both sorors and frats) either don't know much about us, say we throw awesome parties, or want no association with us. Even at an IFC meeting they talk trash.

My advice is to just do what you have to do, let others thik what you want, and just do your own thing. Maybe I'm coming from a different position because we don't exactly have a good relationship with the other greeks, but that's the only thing you can do.

Prove them wrong....and not by using the same dirty tactics they are. Their bad publicity of you is giving you the opportunity at good publicity. Use it to your advantage. Do things on campus to show that your organization does have brotherhood and can have a good time, without the need to tear down another organization to do so.

Dude, crap talkers only do that to make themselves look better. You said it yourself, 19 vs. 4. Do those four guys really make you that pissed? Just talk witty to the sorority girls. Swift tounges often out match those whose vocabulary is limited to such terms as "pike sucks."

why not have a wood trading session and see which of them are man enough to take you up on your offer. it's not hazing, since you guys are members. that'll shut them up real quickly. if they want to pop mess about you guys, there are consequences to all that. probably get you in trouble, though, maybe.

Rule on my campus is if you have to talk crap about another group to make yours sound better, you have a lot of serious internal problems.
