The website is hosted in the Czech Republic, and there's a good chance this incident happened there, too.

They've had some serious flooding problems in that part of Europe this year -- the Danube jumped its banks for quite a while, if I recall correctly. Flooding of that magnitude sometimes washes out soil that supports the surface even if it doesn't take the surface, making the ground less solid. The surface can then collapse, resulting in a "sinkhole."

I'm going to guess that a sinkhole or just a plain washed-out hole happened here. Look at the front edge of the top several pictures. That asphalt wasn't laid like that -- something buckled it and washed the still-wet roadbed out from underneath. Flood damage seems a safe bet.

One of my bros was in Prague this summer. He said the city was devastated by the flooding. The real bad part is that Prague is one of the only major cities in Europe, esp. eastern Europe that wasn't destroyed by WW2
