HairCare Emergency

Heres the problem

My hair is extremely broken. Im going to the salon on Friday to get my hair done. But Im scared that I will have to get a boy cut...furthermore, I have a complex about my head I think its too big. I dont know how to prep myself because hairdressers can be brutally honest. So...can anyone offer some GENTLE words of advice, comfort, etc.

Sorhor HolyGhost7,

Just relax, relate, release and check out the new black hair care magazines that feature a lot of fun and beautiful hair cuts and styles for all types of hair problems.

It will be fine you'll see.

It's Only Hair!

Sis, I know where you're coming from, but I think there's nothing sadder than seeing a woman with a head full of damaged, broken hair who is afraid to cut it off for fear that she's going to look like a "boy". You are more than your follicles! Any good stylist will consult with you and work with your facial structure and features to come up with a short -- and healthy hairstyle that compliments you. If you're seriously worried about how you'll look after it's cut, make sure the stylist leaves enough hair so that extensions are an option.

I wish you the best of luck... I'm sure you'll look beautiful with your new do!

Don't Be Afraid

I'm sure a short cut will be beautiful on you. Short haircuts show off pretty faces more.

Thumbs up you will look like TIGHT work...

SoRHOr,
I believe that if it is damaged, it's gotta go! i was in the same boat about a year ago-- my hair was RAVAGED by overprocessing, permanent hair color and lack of periodic trimming... I was able to hide it better than most(INFUSIUM really is a MIRACLE!),but at the end of the day, it was still shedding and breaking and it just had to go. it was hard parting with it, but i committed myself to cutting it off in large amounts at a time( i had pretty long hair!) until i had a completely healthy head of hair again. well, a year later here i am and i can tell you this: BEAUTY doesn't lie in just ONE factor-- your hair is only a part of the big picture! and if your hair is all broke off and visually unappealing, it isn't helping advertise your other good points! don't be afraid. i promise you will feel better about your hair and yourself after you give your follicles a fresh start. DO THE DARN THANG, soRHOr!

Yes, just go ahead and cut it, because if you keep playing with the split ends and what-not it will eend up worse than it is. I don't have much hair, but its growin, noow that i keep it trimmed. WHat you could do is get it trimmed of ALL split ends, then get braids so that it can grow out. My hair grows like wildfire when its braided because it can rest without you using a lot of excess styling products and heat. Then after you take your braids out, it'll be a little longer, so you could ge a cute flip or something. ANd if you get the braids like, oh, 2 maybe 3 times, it'll be back to a decent length in no time, but make sure you let your hair rest in between braid styles so it won't get too stressed. I'm getting mine braided as soon as Bowie decides to send me my check (but you know how they roll LOL).

Ladies,

You all gave some really good advice! HolyGhost7 when you get your hair cut it will actually grow back faster because you have removed the damaged hair.
