Date for Mixers?

Ok you guys, I have a question. Do you need a date for a mixer? Our first one is coming up in a couple weeks, and I wasn't sure if people usually bring dates or if it was more of a go w/ your sorority sisters type deal. Sorry, I'm just learning about all of this and I'm still a little stressed.

Most emphatically NO! The point of a mixer is for a sorority and fraternity to spend time getting to know each other. The only people allowed to be in attendance are the members of that sorority and that fraternity. If you brought a date, your sorority could get an infraction, which means they might have to pay a fine or be placed on social probation.

Sorry if I seem a little strong, but it really worries me that your new sisters (I assume you are pledging this semester) haven't told you basic things like this.

if you needed a date, it would probably be called a "date function" or a semi-formal or formal.

Mixers are more for getting to know people within the Greek system, not for bringing someone a date or something like that.

Hmm, when we have our mixers we're always allowed to bring a date (I've done so at 3 of them), and they are indeed called mixers. By doing so we don't break any rules. I guess things work differently with us!

Hmm, well, we don't have mixers at my sorority....but I'd be pissed if I couldn't bring my homey to an event...unless it's strictly a sorority event!

But I guess there's rules that are different for every organization!
