How many is too many?

I'm curious to know how many do you feel is too many to be on line......er, I mean to go thru the MIP? I have seen lines of 85 and heard of lines over 100. How do you get to know that many at once?

This is a interesting issue. Now if you are dealing strictly with MIP by the books why put a cap on it. It is impossible to pledge that many people underground of course. With MIP intake of say 100 is easily facilitated.

Well, I can't comment on pledging/MIP since everyone's is different. . .

But where do you PUT that many people? Logistically, it must be a nightmare.

One organization at my alma mater would have lines of 100+. If I'm not mistaken they would be split up for intake purposes. It was interesting because #73 probably had no idea who #5 was.

Roughly 500 girls would show up to their Informationals so I guess they were stuck with having to take a higher number of people. They would end up having gaps between their lines due to various reasons(probation, etc.), so understandably a lot of potentials had to wait. As a result, instead of having lines of 30 or 40 each semester they would end up with 100 after a year-and-a-half wait. If they had a line each Fall and Spring semester I doubt they would all have 100+ on them. At some schools some organizations wait two years to have a line, so of course they will have a buildup of people that were waiting to pledge.

I agree with LB1914, I have heard that in those instances, the lines are broken up, but yet, the statement was made how does #77 know #5? They dont...
Odd...

I was #6 of 5 (go figure, our Duece cut loose)

My thing is that you are not a line if you don't come in together. MIP killing me as much as blind pledging. Is the lesser of two evils better.

I agree with Brother Gee. No matter how many were on your line, you are not truly a line unless you come together and bond at some point. That point was brought up to one of our National officers once and he responded that you can bond through doing projects and events after you cross. Pardon my language, but that's bullshit.

Brotherhood and Sisterhood are what separate fraternities and sororities from other groups. If you just want to do service you can join the Urban League or Habitat for Humanity. You can do a million projects together with someone but if there is not a brotherly/sisterly bond there they are really no more than a co-worker. We don't need to have organizations full of co-workers and associates when the intention from the beginning was brotherhood and sisterhood.

Tell em frat.

Are we a club or are we a fraternity. There is a big difference.

Legacy, you make a great point! My line was comprised of 12 girls, at my university thats a fairly 'big' line. But at other uni's in my state there have been those lines in excess of 100. I won't say bonding and sisterhood can't happen, but for us the 12 was stressful, I can't even imagine 50, a 100, whoa??? but hey I guess its possible.

Maybe lines with over 50 people aren't meant to know each other. It's about the $$ bill yall. lol Thank (ya I said thank instead of think) about it, 100 men or women sign there names on the dotted line and pay there $700-$1000 that's $70 to 100K for that one semester. Who cares if 73 knows 5.

Just a thought.

That's a good point StrangeFruit, especially considering that there are cases where chapters have been forced to take in X amount of people or have had to let people on line in lieu of lawsuits or other action. I know at my alma mater they would jack up the price compared to what Nationals actually asked for. Therefore, not only was Nationals getting theirs, the chapters were getting theirs as well.

35+ is too many. Having more than 100 is darn right outrageous. Come on that must be a lot of pressure on the membership committee. I do not know about the other sororities, but Zeta Phi Beta Sorority only has one dean. I would not want anyone to have that much pressure of them to be in charge of over 100 people.

Strangefruit, you might be correct. It must be the money. If that is true, why interview. Just write the check and give them there letters.

Please say it isn't so.

Red face Lonely DST and AKA

I went to the Coca-Cola Classic a couple of years back, when HU and HU (for the slow ones... Hoawrd and Hampton) were playing at RFK. After the game the Stepshow was in the DC Armory and this DST with the number 145 on her back. And not that long ago, there was an AKA with number 137 on hers. I don't no about you, but I would very awkward with something like that on my back. How in the hell does "145 Club in da house" or ...."where my 137 at?!!!!" Yeah, sound strange as hell doesn't that's why I'm apart of that vicious "Tre' Club... #3's baby" and don't forget it.

I think the big lines are a bit ridiculous myself, and unfortunately the people on the line are questioned about it, when it's not their doing. It's the big sisters. . I personally think anything over 20 is a lot, but for Delta, soooooooooooo many girls show up at the interest meetings, and I guess it's hard to stay under 20 or 30. In actuality 75 out of 400 girls is selective, but again, how can they really get to know each other??? They don't. Well I can't speak for anyone else's process. but it was 12 of us, and I still couldn't keep everything straight sometimes.

Also, I don't know about other orgs or chapters,....but uh MIP with DST is work, and it was ESSENTIAL that we knew our info as well as our LS's and their info!! The only difference was that we weren't told to get in the cut if we didn't
