To TPARose
Hi TPARose! I just wanted to welcome you to GreekChat; it's nice to see another Panther on here. Far as I know you and I are the only ones from Pitt unless there are others who just don't say anything!
I'm an alumna so I'm pretty out of touch with Pitt. When does rush start for you guys? Do you know if a lot of girls are rushing?
Have a great time on GC; I've "met" a lot of nice people on here!

Hey there!
I was beginning to wonder where all there Pitt people were!! Id think with 11 NPC houses on campus, thered be more of us floating around.
Rush begins on the 20th of Sept, with 11 rounds. They changed it this year, trying to make it more fair, so instead of 11 rounds being 15 minutes with each house, Panhell decided to make them split parties that all PNM's are supposed to go to. after two nights of 11 rounds, it goes to 8 rounds, 4rounds, pref night and bid night. It sounds pretty tedious, but I think it will be better for the PMN's.
Im going to be a rho chi this fall, so Im pretty psyched for rush. So far Im not really sure how many girls are going through rush, but I'll keep you informed Classes start on the 27th of Aug, and hopefully they'll be a lot of intrested freshman.
Lets go Pitt!

I noticed you said Pitt has 11 NPC houses now. When I was there there were 12:
Delta Zeta
Delta Phi Epsilon
Kappa Delta
Sigma Delta Tau
Sigma Sigma Sigma
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Theta Phi Alpha
Delta Delta Delta
Chi Omega
Alpha Delta Pi
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Which house is no longer there?

. Sadly enough, in the spring semster of 2000, Theta lost their charter. Im not exactly sure why this happened because I came as a freshman last year although I have heard that they used to be one of the strongest on campus. I do have some ideas why it happened, but Im not posative so I dont want to spread rumours.
. Cuurently, their half of the house is being inhabited by foreign students. I guess if the demand came, they could recharter, but I dont belive that will happen any time soon as greek life is having some issues here at Pitt. Im not sure what the long term plans for their house will be.

Hey ladies - I have a question. (TPA Rose, I went to Clarion but I live in Pittsburgh now.) Where the heck ARE the sorority houses at Pitt? I've never been able to find them. Try giving me directions from Hillman.

Sheila, I'm bumping this up to the top so that TPARose can answer. I know where they are, but I'm lousy with directions and street names plus I can't remember which streets are one way!

Lol, Welcome to Pennsylvania, State of Backwards laws.
According to Pannsylavnia State Legislature, if there are more then 5 women living in a house, it is considered a brothel. The result? Sorority floors. Almost all of the sororities are housed Amos, but you wouldnt be able to access them unless you know someone to get you in. However, if you'd like, I can give you the email addys of one of my good friends on TriSigma if you wanted to get in touch with the chapter there.
There is one house off campus, Kappa Kappa Gamma, which is pretty far off of campus. In fact, I forget what the st, name is right now. The fraternity houses are all "on the hill" or off of campus. The houses that are on the hill are up near the cost center behind the big hole in the ground where the stadium used to be
Sadly enough, untill PA gets into the 21st centuary, there will be no houses. Boo!!
Take care!

Well, KKG still has a house right? Oh, I remember the street name it was on... Bayard Street! It runs parallel with Fifth Avenue. I am thinking the closest cross street is Dithridge or Bellfield? Funny how things you think you'll always remember can be forgotten!

I think the PA brothel thing is a myth....Lehigh & Lafayette have houses, I'm pretty sure. But there is no space in Oakland as it is and God forbid if it was used for sorority houses.

Hmm, I dunno how _that_ works..
I do know the one reason that the Kappas have a house is because they were established before the law came out, so they were grandfathered. Its true that I dont know where we would have houses even if they were allowed. They have problems anough with the fraternity housing. Actually, The house that the Delta Sigs are in, on North Ditheridge used to be the Theta Phe house, some 80, 90 years ago... I feel bitter when ever I see it
Good job, KR for remembering!! I have a horrible problem with names.. Which ends up with me getting lost quite a bit
