Question Alum

I am on the exec council on my sorority and on of my main goals for the term is to increase alumni involvement, but I'm not really sure what to do. If there are any alum that check this board could you please respond back.

Hi, angelic!

Check the threads in the Alumni category...there are some great ones. I was on AAC for awhile and I liked it because the actives made me feel so valued and not like someone they had to tolerate. What chapter are you in?

I am a freshman but our chapter is kind of doing the same thing. We are having an easter egg hunt for Alum and thier children and we recently babysat all thier kids for them while they went out on a Sat. night. We are also going to try this next fall with our new pledges and it is called SOS. It stands for slightly older sister. It is when you pair a pledge with an alum or a senior and it functions kind of like your big sister. We thought that might help with our interactions with the alums.

I posted this mesage a while back under this other name.. then my computer crashed.. uughh.. and i had to get a new name bc i couldnt remember my password...

well after my term on exec I was then selected as alumni relations chair this semester after showing a strong interest in keeping up with our alumni.. I have started a listserv, updated our database, held a brunch before a football game at the house, updating the webpage, and now I am working on creating a newsletter.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what should be included in the newsletter? Does anyone have any examples of ones that they have for their alumni? Do you mail them out to your alum. or post them online? So many questions.

I am just really big on getting our alumni involved which hopefully will lead to donating money to our chapter and such too. Nothing big.. but stuff that might help keep our dues down. As college students its hard to pay dues while paying for college.. I know in my boyfriends org they keep their dues low so that when you graduate you pledge a certain amount to donate back. To balance things out.. but then people of course give more over time.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Speaking as an alum, the things that I love to see in the newsletter than I get from my chapter are the positives:
*How many women did you pledge? (with hometowns)
*How many women graduated and what are their plans?
*Who are the new officers (with their hometowns)?
*I can find out international awards on the Pi Phi webpage but what are the awards and recognitions on your own campus?
*Events that are long traditions will tie your alums to the current chapter in ways that the Arrow can't. (like Songfest at UT... I love seeing pictues and hearing about it)

If you use a commercial company to produce your newsletter-- the one that promises $$ will go to the chapter if alums pay for subscriptions-- let your alums know how much you DID get (if any). I've always been hesitant to donate that way because I'm not sure the $$ really gets to the chapter. I'd rather drop some cash in the bowl at Homecoming!

Hope this helps--
