Pimps: A pity or a profession
I'm here in Memphis and Bishop Don Juan and his clan (other pimps) are here this weekend doing a Pimps up.....ho$! down 2 for HBO. I like to get opinions on this whole pimpin thing. My question is "is pimpin a pity or a profession"? I mean some women actually adore these men....seeing them as a icon. Do you think that if these men are making $$$$ off of these women that these women deserve to be dogged and out all times of the night? Or better yet, do the women deserve this because they're crazy enough to let these guys do this....so are they getting what they deserve?

Come on, Oneinamillion. You CAN'T be serious about this question, right?
I guess that I'm not getting the NATURE of this question. Pity or profession? Maybe I'm crazy, but I just can't see some young man or woman...like my son or daughter...ASPIRING to be a pimp. When colleges and universities around the world begin offering courses on BEATING DOWN YO HO 101 or SOLICITING YO HO 312 or DEGRADING YO HO 210 or EXPOSING YO HO TO DRUGS AND ALCOHOL 221 or CHEATING YO HO OUT OF MONEY 303, then someone PLLLEEEEZ let me know. I'll make EXTRA sure that MY children don't go anywhere near those, let's say, institutions. How in the world does a pimp ENLIGHTEN, LIFT, or BETTER our communities? So, MY response to this thread is that PIMPING IS A PITY...TO THE 200TH POWER!!!!!!!
Gosh I just can't wait to see how others are going to respond to THIS question.

korkscru I would like to think that mostly everyone who post mostly in this forum is in a disagreeance with pimping? But some folks really take this as a true profession....I mean serious, despite what some of us may think. Some folks may have respect for these pimpsters; claiming that they're just doing what they got to do to get what they want. After all they're arguement is "we're not killing or hurting anyone. We're making the girls happy and we're making $$$."
I'm glad to hear your view on it though...don't get me wrong. Maybe I can try and clarify this....I'm not asking how it is helping the community but simply do you see it as a profession or a pity. Should Bishop and his crew be taken serious or should they be pitied and prayed for!
Most of you will probably say prayed for!
This was just a thought that crossed my mind this afternoon and I was wanting to hear your views. Surely I don't partake in offending anyone.

It's a profession just not a honorable or honest one. I can't pity someone who lives just to demean others. I have no pity for them. they are killing people by helping to spend disease and getting those girls hooked on drugs. Why should anyone pity them? They are the scum of the earth.

I see where you're coming from, Oneinamillion. And I now agree with others when they say that these "pimps" don't deserve any pity. I guess my "thang" is that I can't see HOW they can JUSTIFY their..."profession"? Yes, they are making money and they are delivering "services" that are in demand (I guess that I can say that, right?) Anyway, I guess that I'm looking more at the MORAL and ETHICAL aspects of this "profession". And, from my observations, there ARE none. I mean, it's just kinda HARD for me to classify pimping as a profession. It's not like these people file this stuff on their taxes every year. If that is the case, then another question would be do you consider prostitution, selling drugs, money laundering, or any other criminal activities to be professions also? I don't know. It just seems that pimping would be more like a hobby...you don't haveto do it, but you do because you get some kind of kick out of it. On top of that, it does not line up with MY belief system. I can definitely see that we're all on the same page about pimping though. But you HAVETO admit. My comment about the college courses was really funny, right? My husband and I were talking about this topic last night and we had a ball imagining what it be like to attend a class on pimping.

Although it does sound amusing, it's embarrassing that HBO is there documenting Bishop Don Magic Juan and co. Just another contribution to the ridiculous image some of us already suffer because it will be on HBO -- a mainstream media outlet.

Steeltrap it's more like showcasing them.. yesterday my husband was in the barbershop; now this barbershop is next to a soul food restaurant in downtown Memphis. But anyway Bishop and his click (pimps and their girls) all walked in after being treated like kings at the soul food restaurant next door. The thing about it is when they walked into the barbershop they didn't want to get any service they just wanted to get praised and looked at. , my husband said they stayed in their for probably about 20 minutes and left showcasing and looking for quote "ho!$$" in the Memphis area to recruit.
I must say...I just can't get with how some women allow them to do them. The pimps were all on "the Janice Fullilove show" a local radio station Thurs. night and one of them told her "we're doing women a favor...look we take'em off the dope dress 'em up and put them to work. Skinny Red don't put no dirty girls on the street, I keep em all clean by going to the clinic every 6 months maybe 3." I said WTF.

You have to understand
There are some women out there that grew up in this life style. Though there are MANY avenues to take to get out of this kind of life style, this is all they know.
I know some females (from back in the day of high school) that have been involved with a "pimp" and have been a "hoe" and what not. To them it's their family, their "hood".
Talking with them, they'll have you thinking that it is the most wonderful "profession" in the world, that what the media protrays is not true. There's more to it then just selling your self for $$ but that is what they know to be true.
It's a profession, not one that most of us would aspire to be part of, but it's still out there.

I just watched a television special last night on this subject and "pimpology" is quite interesting...Not that I agree with it or anything, but the "rules" of the game are intriguing. One pimp argued that the media portrays it differently than it actually is. He also said that most pimps do NOT allow their hos to drink or do drugs because THEY want to be first on the list to get them dollars...not the dopeman. They also admitted to playing on young girls' disadvantages for their own benefit. They look for high school drop outs and runaways, pick them up, clean them up, give them a room/bed in a house or apartment, give them a little change, listen to their problems & drama, and in exchange they have to turn tricks. A special advantage to some "pro hos" and ones that have been with their pimp for the longest is that they get to ride in the front seat and the other hos have to ride in the back
I do believe it is morally wrong, but the two parties involved seem to have an agreement and if the hos wanna put themselves out there like that, so be it. In one part of the show, a pimp rolled up on some of his hos. One of them walked up to the car, pulled a knot of money out her bra, and gave it to him. He was like, "fo sho'...we gonna get summin' to eat in a lil while, aiight bitch?" HE SAID IT SO CASUALLY LIKE *BITCH* WAS HER FIRST NAME...*aiight Sherrie?* *aiight Donna?*....NO, *AIIGHT BITCH?* I was like whoa.
