Angry Prime example of why we as greeks get a bad rep

last night while at a social even between my sorority and a local fraternity that we just THAT NIGHT renewed relations wiht after events, a brother stepped out of line. as i walked by he pulled my skirt up, and then proceeded to say that he did nothing wrong. My big (the president of my sorority) as well as his own brothers saw what he did and thought it was wrong. As soon as he saw he was in trouble he turned and ran out of the house so no one could find him. his brother said (QUOTE) "that was so uncalled for, he is going to really have to be spoken to", which i thought was very good of him. the president of the fraternity came to apologize right after, which i accepted because the actions of one person should not represent a whole org.. it is just that ONE PERSON can really ruin the rep of a whole system...
the worst part is, one of my sisters said "well you shouldnt' have worn a skirt"... that really offended me because i feel as though if i want to be wearing a skirt i should be able to, i shouldn't have to dress a specific way to ensure that i won't be assaulted by a brother
we will be going back to this fraternity for other rush events, but this particular brother will be excluded from them...

just thought i'd share the events of last night with everyone.

Re: Prime example of why we as greeks get a bad rep

If one of my sisters had said "well you shouldnt' have worn a skirt" I would probably have beaten her ass. By saying that she is basically saying that you were asking for it. That is crap.

I'm glad to see that the his brothers are not putting up with his crap. I'm also glad to see that you are not breaking off relations with this fraternity because of this incident and that you realize that one person doesn't represent an entire organization. This brother should be excluded from all social events until he can learn to keep his childish urges under control.

I agree with AOX whole-heartedly.

What your sister said was basically saying you were asking for it, which you were not. How were you supposed to forsee what was going to happen in the future? Even if you could, NO ONE should be pulling up anyone else's skirt in the first place.

I am also glad that the other fraternity members did not agree or encourage their brother's behavior.

I'm glad to hear that the other members of the fraternity did not try to make excuses for that brother, and that they took it upon themselves to apologize for him.

Your sister's statement about the skirt, on the other hand, is completely uncalled for! How dare she! I guess she also is of the opinion that any woman who gets raped "asks for it."

I would definitely say something to her about that comment, and let her know that it was unacceptable and totally out of line.

Several years ago in Italy, where "What were you wearing?" is not only admissable, but the first thing rape victims are asked before the Carabinieri will even open an investigation, a judge acquitted a rapist because the victim had been wearing jeans when he attacked her. Of course, everybody knows that you cannot be raped if you are wearing jeans. This caused a major outcry and every single female Minister of Parliament wore jeans every day to work in protest for almost six months until a higher court reversed this judge's ruling.

In most states, the rape victim's attire is inadmissable as evidence. No woman asks to be sexually assaulted or harrassed, regardless of what she was (or was not) wearing at the time. Make it clear to your sister that this comment was as inappropriate as that brother's behaviour.

Exclamation

I hope when his Brothers got back to the House, that they admonished him for being STUPID!

I hope you tell your Sisters that wearing a skirt is no damn reason for it to be pulled up!

This is not an act of a True Fraternity Gentleman but someone who had more than he could handle!

I hope you had good legs that he wanted to see or he is a Moron!

It seems a little harsh that he can't go to any events that you are there for . . .

I think it's great that he can't go to any events you're at. He shouldn't be able to. Hi, welcome to college. Enjoy the consequences of your actions.

I'm sorry you had to deal with something like that. I was hugely impressed when at a party last night, one of the Kappa Sigma pledges launched into a story about a girl with "fu**ing HUGE tits..." and the pledge educator, who was sitting next to me, stopped him. Twice. When the kid messed up the THIRD time (each sucessive attempt at telling the story was marginally better) the pledge educator said, "We don't talk like that around ladies. Especially not sorority ladies. And certainly not around the girlfriend of an older brother. Unless of course you wanted to get your a** kicked."
